Laptop for Work - Budget $1300

Hi all, am looking to buy a new laptop with a budget of $1300 (can add a bit if required and will be travelling so can claim TRS) for mainly reading PDF, some words, web browsing, YouTube videos and Excel. I don’t intent to play games on it.

My priority is battery life, 512gb, no more than 14” of screen and portability, I was looking at the Surface Laptop 5 512gb for $1598 at JB-Hi but would prefer at least 3 ports. Don’t need 2in1 feature on a laptop if that helps save some money.

I was looking at some Lenovo’s but heard their laptops have fan issue where it would get noise often even under light loads.

Thanks in advance ;)

Try visit https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/computers-tablets/wind… look for something that satisfy your needs?

would prefer at least 3 ports

    Get a port replicator ?

    • Yeah but I also want to know what laptop would the fellow ozbargainer recommend cuz specs can be good on the paper but the quality is a different story, actual battery life, fan always kicks in and noisy? and another build quality stuff.

      • It's not easy to recommend a laptop, everyone has their own need and specification. ie colour, brand, price, design, memory, weight, size, resolution, fan noise, USB ports, etc.
Hence I recommend you to visit shop like jb hifi, they usually got verities for everyone's needs.
Even with battery life, it's too hard to comment, it all depends on the user, what's installed, what's running in the background.
Currently, I'm using MS Surface 4/8 and Dell XPS, they are all different for each use case, and they all have pros and cons.

Your concern is fewer ports. (get a replicator), small battery life? (carry the cables with you, most support usb c charging anyway)

  • I’m looking for a new upgrade prior to eofy with similar use case as yourself and most likely will go surface laptop 5. My workplace has surface laptop 3 and 4’s and they have been going good so happy to give m$ my money again.

  • I was looking at some Lenovo’s but heard their laptops have fan issue where it would get noise often even under light loads.

Mine doesn't. I haven't heard the fan on mine activate in a long time (weeks). Lenovo ideapad slim 5 pro 14in.

    • Good to know, do you have the i5 or i7? How long does the battery last for you? Thanks

AMD 5600u with gpu (that I never use). Battery lasts a long time. I've been using it on and off this morning for at least a few hours, and have 71% left.

  • Are you using it for work? Why claim TRS when you can claim tax reduction on the whole thing?

      Double dip the chip.
