Advice on an under $30 Powerbank

Need a simple 'cheap' powerbank. I'm looking at the $30 mark and have see 3 on Amazon (looking for quick delivery).

Common sense says the most mAh is the winner, but I'm not sure!

a) Anker A1263 – 10000mAh – 60K 4.5star reviews on Amazon
b) Anker A1215 – 13000mAh – 2K 4.5star reviews on Amazon
c) INIU ‎BI-B41 – 10000mAh – 21K 4.5star reviews on Amazon

All are around the same age, 5-7 years old. 'b' seems like the most charge, but weirdly not even close to same reviews. Can't work out why!

Buy anything from Anker or Belkin and you won't have a problem, just buy whatever form factor you prefer. I really recommend Anker > All though.

    • I'm gathering that people are big fans of Anker. But why is the less mAh one got 60,000 good reviews, and the more capacity one only 2,000?
Is there something I'm missing about the 13,000mAh one?

      • Could just be a newer product listing? Therefore not as many reviews have been left yet.

      • It's cheaper, probably released before the larger one, therefore more people have probably purchased it.

There's a power bank tag you can use on ozb to find and compare previous prices.

I have this exact model and it has been really good so far. Fast charges my S20 FE and my partner's S21.

A bit on the heavier side, but it is 20k mAh for $34.99 ($29.04 with ebay plus code MEAS17)

    • oh great, another one in the mix! Now I'm more confused!

  • I'd avoid any powerbank today that requires micro USB to charge.

Look for one that can charge and be charged by USB C.

I think one of my powerbanks can also charge via lightning.

Handy so I only need 1 cable.

  • A friend of mine had his cygnett powerbank explode while he was away interstate for work and he basically lost everything in his apartment (as their mattress caught fire). Used it all the time too so just a heads up! The poor bugger

    • This is my nightmare. Individually it might be a one in a million chance, but when you have a hundred devices with lithium batteries in them, that drops it to one in ten thousand.

Did he leave in on the charger? Most of the time I read about lithium battery fires, its because it was left on the charger.

Nope they did not! It was just on their bedside table too. They said they used it all the time and they travel a lot for work so lucky it didn't explode on a plane!

        • When was this ?

        • V. Scary.

Imagine if you had a powerbank in a babies room overnight, powering a nightlight or something. Makes me shiver

  • b) Anker A1215 – 13000mAh – 2K 4.5star reviews on Amazon

When I searched Amazon Au there were over 28k reviews

I construct my own with a kit from aliexpree ~$6 delivered, and use the 18650s from discarded laptop batteries

    • What could go wrong if you did that!

      • I use samsung cells. Same circuity as most powerbanks out there. Been using the same 3 powerbanks for the last 5 years without an issue
