It's nice but $550 nice? Probably not

  • +1

Good price but can you trust the package of Amazon for it to turn up undamaged? Reviews don’t say so.

    • I've ordered a few from Amazon, so far all have arrived in good condition.

    • +1

Nope. Most of my lego sets are crushed on delivery. Bigger sets have smaller chance of damage because the actual Lego box is tougher but still get damaged like side box getting ripped or something.

My Lego World map had a crack at the side :/

    • +1

Well Amazon is probably one of the best in this matter, on par with if not slightly better than BigW/Kmart/Many others for their boxes are generally tougher.

Lego official website paired with DHL is the worst.

    • My experience with Lego on Amazon is good so far.

Bad experiences are with David Jones online, Target online……

Lego's gotten so insane now. I've swapped to alternate bricks from china, sooooooo much more affordable and quality is basically the same.

    • +2

      What website?

      • I'll DM you when I'm home

        • Leaving us hanging in public thread!

The seedy underbelly of alternatively-sourced lego bricks that shall not be named

          • @UsernameChecksIn: Lol sorry I just don't know if I'm allowed to post it publically. I'll DM you as well :)

If anyone wants a link just DM me too.

          • @UsernameChecksIn: Uhh for some reason I can't DM you, start a convo with me, and I should be able too then.

    • totally agree. i thought we are all under recession but hey $500 plastic is okay

    • +1

Thing is though they have near zero residual value. When your done with them your donating to some other unsuspecting group, mixed lot sale, or into the bin.

      • -1

Not at all, just specify it's non-lego bricks price accordingly and you'll be fine, Ive sold sets easily.

    • quality is basically the same.

      Citation needed.

      • So I'm gonna reply and go through every point seeing as you have no idea

Quick back story, I've been buying alternate bricks for 5+ years from china.

        • No outer box. - Wrong. You can get boxes if you pay more for it, they remove the boxes so it clears customs easier since you generally throw it away anyway, and it's cheaper in the end.

        • No numbered bags. - Wrong. This used to be a thing, nearly every brand use numbered bags now. They have for quite a few years.

        • Knock-off manual with Chinglish and/or misspelled sticker sheets. - Partially wrong, of course it's a knock off manual, it's a clone set?? Stickers are mispelt on purpose for copyright. If it bothers you so much, you can get the sticker sheets and original manual from Bricklink, or just look up the manual on the Lego site.

        • Zero after-sales support or warranty. - Wrong again. There's curated lists and reviews of many sites including sellers on AliExpress all of which have great after sales support for missing pieces etc.

        • Missing pieces, broken pieces, the wrong pieces for your set, bent or deformed pieces with no parts replacement policy from the seller.- See above, this also applies to Lego btw, they do come with missing pieces sometimes too.

        • Weak brick clutch with some parts refusing to stay together and requiring super-glue. - Partially wrong in the early days about 8 years ago, maybe, even then it was only on the heavy heavy gearing sets, these days again, the quality is virtually identical. I've bought multiple sets over the years and it's only gotten better.

        • Weird oily residue on bricks. - to quote yourself, citation needed, never had/seen/heard about this issue

        • Poor brick tolerances leading to pieces not fitting together as intended. - Again early days maybe, I've never had this issue at all even from the early days

        • Supporting the scummy Chinese clone and counterfeiting industry. - They have their own models as well as paying MOC developers unlike Lego. In the end I look out for my wallet and bottom line, not a multi billion dollar corps wallet

        • Good write-up on Lepin's piss-poor quality control here(brickset.com).- ** 6 years ago, random seller on aliexpress, random brand, sure holds up today 🙄🙄**

As you said in your comment on that thread, there may be alternate brick fan bois, but you sir are a definite lego fan boy, spreading mis-information for literally no reason. People are trying to save some money in a shitty economy, let them save money at the expense of MAYBE/arguable slightly less quality (which I still don't believe)

I am not a fan boy, I am merely providing facts and my experience, maybe you should do the same.

        • -1

Lol. Literally every "point" of yours was you basically saying "you're right, but…" followed by a bunch of mental gymnastics/copium to justify your love of Chinese bricks.

But the best f**king line by far was:

They have their own models as well as paying MOC developers unlike Lego.

HA. Yes, after first stealing designs not only from Lego but numerous MOC creators for years and years.

Oh the generosity of these scumbags to finally start paying MOC creators (but not Lego) some peanuts for their designs which they've profited off royalty-free for years to the tune of probably tenfold what they've given back. That definitely atones for their past business model of outright theft and makes them morally superior to Lego.

And I might add, that's only SOME of the Chinese clone brands that actually do pay licensing costs to creators and it's hardly representative of the majority of them.

And you obviously know about Lego Ideas and the rewards paid to winning Lego Ideas designers probably trump anything you get from a Chinese clone brand by leaps and bounds.

How much of the Chinese brick manufacturers sets are their own designs versus how many are Lego rip-offs or rip-offs of community-created MOCs?
No one is buying that sh*t for their original designs, they're either buying clones of expensive UCS/Technic sets or clones of popular MOCs.

spreading mis-information for literally no reason.

          LOL.

"hE's sPrEaDiNg aNti-aLteRnAtE bRiCk tHeOrIeS eVeRyOnE!" Better call the Wuhan Institute of Brickology and have me deplatformed; ffs you sound precious and hysterical. Go build yourself a Lepin bridge and get over it.

People are trying to save some money in a shitty economy, let them save money at the expense of MAYBE/arguable slightly less quality (which I still don't believe)

          "B-b-buh muh hedonistic, selfish greediness…"

I'm going to build you a tiny Lego violin and play you a tiny tune on it.

What I said here sums up the multitude of other reasons besides pure greed and unadulterated consumerism that might motivate people to reconsider purchasing counterfeit Lego as it does undoubtedly support an incredibly corrupt, unethical and dishonest industry in a nation that is a global pariah for well-deserved reasons.

With people boycotting countries like Russia for political reasons, why would you continue to support China's rampant IP theft, sweatshop/slave labour industry and anti-competitive practices when doing so only helps their counterfeiting industry flourish so that it can branch out into other products/goods and further undermine foreign companies and economies?

          • -1

            @Gnostikos:

as it does undoubtedly support an incredibly corrupt, unethical and dishonest industry in a nation that is a global pariah for well-deserved reasons.

Just gonna reply to this line since you're too ignorant for the rest,

How's all those chinese devices and tech in your home going? Oh wait but they're fine right? Get off your high horse, you're as bad as every other hypocrite that tries to say OMG CHINA BAD BUY HOME GROWN STUFF

You have nothing to stand on.

    • Can you pls dm me also

  • Is not 550 anymore..It's $585 now.

  • buy the $506 - used very good set from amazon warehouse.

    damaged box only.

    • Any experience with the Amazon seconds/returns?

      • +1

yes. no issue. 100% success rate.

        • Thanks! I took the plunge and recieved the seconds today. Way better condition than I expected. The box was still sealed with original tape, it looks better than Lego sets store on store shelves with damage caused by security devices.

Only sign of "damage" was a couple of corners of the box was worn down ever sightly.
