  • Ugh so tempted by the yellow one

EDIT - bought the one from amazon marketplace for $144, thanks for the tip OP!

  • +1

Just FYI that the G-Shock app does not sync with your phone health app so whatever the steps to do on this watch does not get added to your health app

  • This watch is great but the app is bloody awful. It loses connection almost daily. I stopped wearing it as it was too unreliable and i was missing phone calls and notifications.

    • You might need to make some adjustments to your phone app battery optimisation so that it doesn't kill the app, also the watch does not always connect to your phone so it shouldn't be treated like a smart watch to receive notification

    • Make sure in your phone settings, the G-shock Move App's location access setting is set to "always allow".
After I did this the watch stays connected as long as it is on your wrist and keeps detecting movement using the step counter.

Also do you take your watch off everyday? If you take it off and set it down with no movement, the watch disconnects bluetooth to save battery. You need to understand this is a watch with 18 to 24 months battery life with the estimate use in the user manual. You can't expect that kind of battery from a coin cell battery unless extreme power saving measures are designed into it.

  • no strava?

  • I have this.
Pros - No charging issues as the battery goes for about 10 months (heavy notification user) + casio feel + invincible + that's it.

Cons - not actual smart watch + app is crap + UI is epic fail. Even to check the notificatins is like 5 button press

All in all good as backup "smart watch"

    • Even to check the notificatins is like 5 button press

Yeah honestly I can only think of one reason they did this, to force you not to do it. The more you fiddle with the watch obviously the worse the battery life and to get 2 years with Bluetooth connection available they need to have some kind of control over how each customer will use it.

I am satisfied with the level of info I get from the preview and notification speech bubble though. But I am a "minimal notification" type person. Only set important notifications to come through on the phone, so whenever I see a preview or the number in the speech bubble I know what it is.
The only thing I thought they could have done without sacrificing battery life, was to have a text preview in the SMS/message preview. Instead it just shows the contact name twice. Just the first line of the message would have been nice, but at the same time could be distracting for some people.

I have gotten used to it and now I prefer no message preview. If I am expecting an urgent type of message I will pull out my phone straight away anyway.
Also the calendar event and reminder previews show the text preview (e.g. walk the dogs etc) so I am happy with that.
I have fully gotten used to how the whole watch works now so I am pretty happy with it.

By the way here is some info I learned on how the notification bubble number clears on the watch. For messages, I can unlock the phone go to text message app and just open the unread message and it clears the number from the bubble (don't need to tap the lockscreen notification). But for some reason with Calendar alerts, I have to tap the notification on the lock screen and go to the Calendar app that way to clear it on the watch. Also with reminders I have to tap the lock screen notification, go to the Reminders app and actually tap the reminder as "done" to clear it on the watch. Weird but I learned these by using it over the last few months.

  • $150 is a good price for the GBD200. Worth mentioning though a recent Catch deal had the Red one for $119 Shipped with a Onepass Free trial.

Also should say, the Onepass discount offer lasted only a few days so either there was a limit of claims or it expires quick. So if you see a Onepass discount in the future be quick!

  • I got this and returned it the same day, the watch didn't alert to phone calls and the notifications are buried deep in the menus not on a pop up.

  • Yellow one still there
