Breville Oracle Vs Dual Boiler Vs Other

Hey all,

I'm moving from a jura fully automatic coffee machine to a manual one.

I've been looking into the two listed in title.

I want something that doesn't take too long to heat up but can also do milk at same time as the espresso.

I'd like to miminise any milk wastage as I drink oat milk and it's like $5 per litre. Which I've herd the oracle is bad at as it needs a min amount to use the auto frothed which means wastage.

Whats your reccomendations or is there anything else that I should look into?

If the dial boiler, which grinder?

Cheers.

I moved from an jura to breville oracle a few years back. Never looked back.

With some fresh beans 95% of cafes out there make worse coffee than me.

The auto dose and tamp is worth it. It's pretty much close to fully automatic. Just need to clean the milk tube. Also auto frother is perfection everytime.

I think it's a nice step before going manual.

Can echo this exactly. Went from a Jura to Breville Oracle and once you find beans that are good and fresh (ALDI even fresh enough if you get the latest expiration date… not that they have stock lately) then you'll find spending money at most cafes is often disappointing. I only drink long blacks so even less maintenance for me. My Oracle is at about 5000 coffees and I've spent about $600 on repairs in 7 years.

    • In regards to the espresso part. Tgat would make identical to a dual boiler yeah?

Ive read the oracle is quicker to heat up?

Do you waste alot of mill for 1 coffee?

      • Don't think the dual boiler has auto tamp? Which for me is a god send. Never really mastered consistent tamping.

Can't talk to heat up times between the 2.

        • Nah it doesnt. Was going to buy a tamp kit. So that part doesnt faze me too much.

@Agechamp: Only thing I can add beyond this from an Oracle user is to be wary of the black sesame version. The guy that services my machine for me (Breville approved) has said he's never seen a black sesame one look good after a year or 2. Coating chips/peels. You'll be able to get a better price on the black sesame one though. I got a great price years ago on the stainless steel one so lucky me.

@Agechamp: Go manual weigh the milk for no wastage
Tamping isn't an art form you just press the coffee firmly and keep it level
The grinder/grind is more important than the tamping don't waste money on a auto tamper just get a good quality electric burr grinder
Just practice as the hardest part really is the artwork on top

Oracle is a great machine. We have the non touch version, which is identical in terms of internals and ability.

    • So ive watched a few videos and it says you cant adjust the amount the machine doses. Its 21g. It also says that when you dont have the hopper full, then the machine finds it hard to grind enough beans as there is not weight from the full beans to help push them into the grinder.

I want to use 18g of beans. Whats the best way around this with the oracle? Seperate grinder? Or just add in the 18g each time and hope it picks up all 18g?

In the new version of the non-touch, they have redesigned the hopper. I can grind all the way to zero beans with no issues.

There is a manual adjustment to change the size of the dose. Here is a youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7ooJEGeJRY

I get around 18.5-19g on mine.

  • Another one to look at is the Breville Express Impress.

  • I want something that doesn't take too long to heat up but can also do milk at same time as the espresso.

Don't get the the dual boiler — the warm up is a few minutes. Also suggest Breville Barista Express or Breville Express Impress, but I don't think they can do things simultaneously.

  • Seems like the oracle is best fit. Just need to make sure i can manage the milk as ive read a few poeple have had fair amount of wasted due to the auto frother needing a min amount.

  • We have the Oracle Touch and we are so happy we bought it! Make sure you register for the white glove service: https://www.cluboracle.com.au/services/white-glove-service

I bought the Oracle in 2018 and its still going strong. It has had the boiler replaced twice now (1 inside warranty and 1 out). Technician said its a common problem but simple enough fix. We use quality small batch beans and the coffee is as good as many cafes around town. If it completely went kaput, I would go buy another one!

  • So i bought the oracle non touch.

First coffee. 18 grams beans, 140grams espresso over 30 seconds with grind size of 20 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • How are you going with this?
Did you find a good deal?

  • How long does it take for an oracle to make a cup of milk coffee? Can it do two double shots at the same time?
