After an AAWireless Device

Just got a ute which has Android Auto, and I want to connect my S20+ to it wirelessly. A quick look on Amazon has a few, ranging from $90 up to about $200. Hoping to hear from someone who might’ve bought one, like if they all do the same thing or why one is more expensive than the other. If one is significantly better but also more expensive, I might hold off for a sale and use a cable connection til then.

  • Eh, I prefer to just spend the extra few seconds plugging in and knowing my battery won't be depleted

Yeah, but I'd rather use wireless AA for the ten minute drive to the shops (plus wireless charger will take care of the battery)

      • Wireless charging is so horribly slow :/

It's ten minutes; I'm sure I won't need to charge my phone wirelessly.

      • This is my thoughts as well. Do you happen to have one of them?

        • +1

No. I use a cable and hope I'll get wireless AA eventually since my car is wireless CP enabled.

          • @kerfuffle: Yeah I think it'll be a worthwhile purchase, just the convenience of it. Got your eye on one in particular? I haven't really researched individual models as of yet. The price was a bit higher than expected

@CustardShot: Nope. I'm fine with cable. My wireless AA experience comes from when I rented i30s.

    • Really doesn't deplete the battery much. About the same as streaming bluetooth audio.

That cable can be a real bitch

    • Ha. Forgot to proof read

  • I just bought the AAWireless 2022 from the Amazon US store about two months ago. It's the first wireless android auto device I've used so I don't have anything to compare to, but two months in and it's working great so far. Connects super quickly and haven't had it drop out once.

  • I use AAWireless as well. Game changer, I never used Android auto before because it was a hassle to plug in the phone especially if I was getting in and out of the car often.

Quick to connect and just as stable as a cable. Would highly recommend. Ask me anything about it.

    • Thanks! That's what I want to hear! Couple questions, if you don't mind.
      Where'd you get it from?
Does your phone auto connect to it?
Is AAW itself a wireless device and need charging often?
What apps would you say are absolute 'must haves'?

      • Where'd you get it from?
        - about a year ago I got it from the indiegogo campaign but now you can get it from https://shop.aawireless.io

Does your phone auto connect to it?
        - yes, about 10-15 seconds from starting the car it's connected and music starts playing automatically. Very stable.

Is AAW itself a wireless device and need charging often?
        - no, it plugs into the USB port that you'd usually plug your phone into

What apps would you say are absolute 'must haves'?
        - Maps, Spotify, Google assistant, not much else I use.

          • yes, about 10-15 seconds from starting the car it's connected and music starts playing automatically.

what juke box app in your android phone do you use for this automatic music start up?

          • @[Deactivated]: youtube music, but I don't think it matters, it just kicks off whatever music app you used last with AA

Do you know if it is possible/easy/quick to switch between different phones?

      TIA

      • +1

Not sure sorry, only use the 1 phone

  • +1 for AAW

  • Carsifi. Takes about 2 weeks from china.

Bought the motorola MA1 - it's a very slim device, discreet and looks like an OEM. I have had some drop outs with my Z fold 4 which have happened while driving under power lines. Maybe it's not just the motorola unit as it seems like other devices experience this

I found that the i30 connection would drop out every time I passed a toll gate, as well as when I entered car parks.

  • I also have an AA Wireless.
It was good when it worked.

It would disconnect every couple of weeks, and I had to reset and reconfigure it. And then it became more frequent, and now it doesn't connect to my phone at all any more.

    • Oh that's no good. Have you moved on to another model?

      • No, I've just gone back to Bluetooth audio and plugging in when I specifically need navigation.

  • Constantly having issues with my AAW since new. Music lags up to 10-20 seconds so it always clash with the navigation prompts. Tried AAW support and played with all kinds of settings for months but problem still there.
Pretty slow cold start - takes a minute from starting the car to AA interface showup. Compare to cable it always takes under 20 seconds.
So I gave up and plug that cable instead.

  • AAWirleless is the way to go - you can disable tap restrictions and increase the DPI to fit more stuff on the screen!
