Need to Buy a Used iPad

I need to buy an ipad for my primary school going daughter who needs it for her school work. But I have no idea what to buy. She just broke her last one to the extent it’s not worth fixing it. Also, she was using an ipad mini and wants to upgrade to a standard sized ipad now.

I see ipads on facebook marketplace of all different configurations and generations. I don’t know what the current generation of ipad is going around. Can you please suggest me which generation of ipad should see her through for next 4/5 years (unless she breaks it). I would like to spend as little as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Does the school stipulate a minimum model?

I would rather buy a new 2019 model around 450$

    • What generation would that be called?

Edit: looks like that's called 9th generation. They are around $499. Can any older generation be bought brand new?

    Kogan usually have a few.
Other Ozbr's could give you feedback.

at least do some research first before posting a question for help.. "i don't even know what the current generation of ipad is going around"?!?!

    • I admit I should have done some research before posting. I have started after posting it. I wanted some pointers before looking into it.

No worries. Many are happy to help but BYOD has some requirements.to make sure you are buying the correct one.
I bought a Macbook for my kids and the school isn't happy with it and they didn't allow them to access school Wif or print from their printers. On a positive side, the MacBooks are still doing fine compared to HP laptops which cost more.

Even Macbooks are somewhat overkill for the school work that is done in schools. Nothing more than web-browsing and basic word-processing, maybe a dabble in CAD software depending on what subjects your kids do, but even then that's what the school computer labs/PCs are for.

          • @CrispyChrispy: High school work and not necessarily overkill when you consider the school's laptop spec. The school offers Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga costed $1,399 in 2021. Macbook happen to be cheaper when I stacked up with Myer deal, GST refund, etc.

What was the reason they didn't like the Macbook? Not posh enough or too old for upgrade to latest MacOS and posed a security risk? Curious to know.

you can get very rugged cases if you're worried about them breaking it

I'd go with a brand new 9th Gen base iPad for peace of mind

Rugged cases and not take it to swimming carnivals

  • Get a good glass screen protector for it.

Also - if you are a Costco member, check their prices out, too. Seven years ago, my daughter wanted to upgrade her iPod and it was $70 cheaper there.

I can't remember how much I saved on my iPad, but it was very good. Worth the membership cost for that year, too.

"She just broke her last one…" ."…..and wants to upgrade to a standard sized ipad now."

That trick's as old as Noah. :)
