I have an 11th-gen Dell XPS 2-in-1 and it's great.
However, I've heard of big reliability issues with 12th gen Intel processors.
I think you've done quite well to get a further $60 off the discounted price.
actually now I am considering going with i5 instead of i7 because I have heard (from a youtube review video of xps13 vs surface 15 laptop) i7 causes more heat and most people are happy with i5 performance.
Would it be better to look for 13th gen versions? I thought there was a big improvement from 12 to 13, or am I mistaken?

From experience HP struggles with heat removal. Hope the Dell is living longer.
I'm still using a Dell XPS13 9350 in terms of reliability they are very solid, just replaced the battery to keep it going
Mine is 9315. How long did the battery last before you had to replace it?
The fan already is making slight noise when I run multiple apps but its not too irritating yet
Mine lasted 6 years before I replaced it usually lasted 6 hours, new battery is about 4-5 hours as I'm not sure if it's genuine. I did the thermal paste and gave it a good clean out I never here it unless it's updating windows and the AV at the same time, mine also has the 3k screen screen with the I7 pretty amazing kit back then
I got them price reduced to 1850$ and with perks discount 1840
