Its USD$3.50 off - iHerb regular low price is [$16.95]

I use this brand are am quite happy. 1 container of 365x 5000iu caps = 2 years supply for 1 person (1 cap every 2 days).

Sunshine is free but during Winter using these is highly recommended. Also, the only effective spectral time for effective vitamin D production from sunlight is approx. 1 hour each side of midday; a healthy caucasian needs about 20 mins per day, whereas dark skinned people can require up to 2 hours of sun exposure per day to create the same amount of Vitamin D within the body. The use of modern sunscreens also inhibits Vitamin D production from the lanolin in your skin (too much sun is bad for you in other ways).

If you research Vitamin D you will find out that is is not actually a vitamin, it is a Steroid Hormone and essential to numerous healthy body functions over time.

Vitamin D accumulates in the fat cells of the body so you must not overdose on suppliments.

Great deal as you say, so I won't be negging this, but as a pharmacist, I don't want to people to buy this just because it's cheap.

As Cynicor points out, 5000IU is way above the RDI. Sure you can take one capsule every two or three days, but that doesn't disguise the fact that on the day you're taking it, it's an overdose, and this is especially problematic if your vitamin D levels are already normal. Not to mention that this is just not the way that medication works - e.g. you don't just double your dose of antibiotics and then skip the next day, because your body doesn't average things out that way.

Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption, which is the far more important health indicator, and is the only real reason why doctors care about your vitamin D levels. Get yourself a blood test before you start self-diagnosing your supplementation, because otherwise, you're just taking something you don't need. (Save your money for other ozbargains..)

Make sure you cover up and use sunscreen which will limit your vitamin D but also help limit your chance of skin cancer.

Nothing like seeing your partner who has never been badly burnt have a tennis ball piece of leg removed because of a melanoma.

    • Thanks :-) Trail pricing is very good, but this price is limited for 1 of each per customer

  • Living like a vampire, I better get me some of that sunny goodness. Ordered. :)

Looks like everyone is typing their car rego's here. :)

Someone just reminded me that Vitamin D cannot be produced if the sun you are getting is from behind glass. It cuts the photon or something.

I totally recommend these, however a trial size will hardly show any benefit as you really should be on them for life unless you work outside and get a sensible 20 mins around midday without sunscreen.

I've been buying these for a couple of years for my parents and gran. they've been happy with them. certainly far cheaper than comparable products in australia.

Thanks for the heads up and I used your code for the extra discount.
I work night shift full time and only have a few weeks left of my current Vitamin D tabs, so great timing. :-)

    • :-)

  • no paypal payment method?

    • It's credit card payment method, but site is well known and with very strong reputation.

  • That's great vit-D. I used Australian brand, but it's tablet, I was choked. I thought I was going to die. So I did research about it. I took one gel every other day, I had vit-d test, it's still low but in a good ranger. So I take 1 for two days, stop the third day. then repeat.

This brand is very easy to swallow. use code SEG493 to get $5 off if you are first buyer.

  • use code OZO436 to get $5 off

Dodgy lies in the description- the RDI for vit D is less than 1000IU, and as supplementation with NO sunlight and a normal physiology you only need 1000IU to maintain a healthy vit D level. The upper limits for intake by many authorities are around 4000IU, and this amount is only recommended to increase levels back to the normal range.

Please revoke my neg iffy doesn't fit the rules.

According to the United States Institute of Medicine,[8]:5 the recommended dietary allowances of vitamin D are:
    1–70 years of age: 600 IU/day (15 μg/day)
    71+ years of age: 800 IU/day (20 μg/day)
    Pregnant/lactating: 600 IU/day (15 μg/day)
    [edit]Upper intake levels
The Tolerable Upper Intake Level is defined as "the highest average daily intake of a nutrient that is likely to pose no risk of adverse health effects for nearly all persons in the general population.[8]:403 " Although tolerable upper intake levels are believed to be safe, information on the long-term effects is incomplete and these levels of intake are not recommended:[8]:403:433
0–6 months of age: 1,000 IU
6–12 months of age: 1,500 IU
1–3 years of age: 2,500 IU
4–8 years of age: 3,000 IU
9–71+ years of age: 4,000 IU
    Pregnant/lactating: 4,000 IU[8]:5

  • Oh man, u should have gotten during last week. they had the free internal shipping deal over $40 under 4lb.
Besides Vitamin D, there are a a lot of things u can get there cheaply.

    • If it was so good deal last weak, why you didn't share ? ))))

      • someone posted in ozbargain. pls check

  • As far as I know (My GP told me), you still need to get some sunshine in order to "activate" vitamin
D that you have consumed. So supplementary intake of Vitamin D is important for people with low vitamin D but having exposure to sun is just as important.

  • This post piqued my interest in vitamin D3.

After due diligence, I've purchased the following

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300753275251

    10000IU x 400 for US$24.98 shipped.
Comes to 3.1225 cents/5000IU for comparison purposes.

    iHerb would be $13.49+$6.00=$19.49 for 5000IU x 360
    Comes to 5.4139 cents/5000IU.

Taking too much vitamin D can be dangerous. However, doctors sometimes prescribe 50000IU for men with deficiencies.

  • Wow, OzBargain really covers everything! Got my bloodwork back today and was low on Vit D, so here I am.

In the interests of even more frugality, I thought I would mention this related product:

    http://www.iherb.com/Healthy-Origins-Vitamin-D3-Drops-5-000-…

About the same number of servings as the capsules, but only $6.99. Plus, given that it's 2 drops per serve, you could halve the dose to one drop a day and get 2500IU, which is probably a more sensible way to go.

    • Thanks OP for posting this offer. Order ended up over $60, so got $10 off plus an extra 10% off! Happy. Shipping only $4.

Does anyone know if Customs are still confiscating kava products? Didn't order this time, but would like to know.
