AMD 7800X3D CPU: What Can We Expect?

The 7800x3d will be releasing on the 6th of April. I was wondering what we can expect for the pricing and availability of this CPU - not necessarily just at launch, but perhaps further down the line.

Its launch pricing is $449 usd, which is the same as that of the 5800x3d at its launch back in April 2022. Converted to aud + Australia tax, I guess we can expect somewhere around $700-800 aud retail price at launch.

If we look at the price history of the 5800x3d, it retailed at around $650 aud at launch and quickly dropped down to $500 during November 2022. Then, perhaps due to the hype surrounding the x3d's L3 cache and what not, the price of the 5800x3d has gone back up to about $550 now. This is in contrast to the 5800x3d's main competitor, the 13600k, which has been steadily dropping in price from around $560 down to $490 currently.

So my question is: can we expect a similar price drop for the 7800x3d later in, say, November/Black Friday? I think it's possible it may retain its price for a long time, given the x3d hype (which is probably not undeserved) for gamers.

The whole world plus+ dog who wanted to upgrade to AM5 are waiting for 2 things. 7800X3D and motherboard pricing to fall. I expect this CPU will have great demand and a high price depending on stock levels/demand. I mean look at 5800X3D, they are seldom on sale and always above 500$. Also X3D is not a hype, its a fact.

Also X3D is not a hype, its a fact.

Bad choice of words on my part.

      • I myself am waiting for this. But it's gonna take a while before it gets to a sale. Probably like your said black friday. Am not in a hurry tho. No CPU bottlenecks ATM :)

I thought hype meant high levels of anticipation/excitement? Doesn't necessarily mean overinflated perception of the thing

        • Sorry English is not my first language.

        • Yeah this was what I meant

Does anyone know when it is available?

    • PCCG has ETA 17/4 and PLE has 13/4 (but PLE is sold out). Other stores either have them listed and OOS (not sure if people bought them and actually OOS, or just a placeholder), or in stock and "at supplier" meaning they haven't received stock from overseas yet

      • I have pre-ordered with Computer Alliance. I rang up and asked if they had an ETA but not yet. Maybe we will all get better ETAs end of this week after the holidays.

        • I ordered from CentreCom initially its shows shipping/pickup from 14/04 but I contacted them and they say its been delayed from supplier :(
I wonder if any shops here actually have anything in stock?

@sirbangforbuck: Over the weekend I considered just ordering it from the AMD store on Amazon US.

          • @sirbangforbuck: I ordered from CentreCom (Vic, Marybinong) with expected pickup last thursday 13/04, contacted them on the day and the dude was able to confirm that they had direct response from supplier that stock had been released from the supplier and shipped so it was now just waiting on logistics of it shipping to them.
He said it wasn't likely to be before this week (20/04) so changed my order to delivery from C&C with express ship.
Hoping it will be here by next week but it does appear delays are big all over the place not just us here in Aus.

Comforting to hear that stock has left suppliers hands though.
