Hello Fresh Sent Me a Box after Payment Declined

I really could not remember if I did cancel that. I thought I did, and I haven't received a box for a few weeks, but today I surprisingly received one in my office. I'm guessing if I just skipped a few weeks but I really don't remember.

I kind of believe that even if I skip a few weeks, the next payment would still shown online as due the second week, so I really think I cancelled it to avoid that second payment (second box as well), but online it shows the plan was active, so I cancelled it (again). Now I can see an email stating that the plan was cancelled.

I'm pretty sure that Hellofresh will want me to pay for this box, whick I'm apparently reluctant to do. The amount is below $150, so I believe a debt collector would not be able to put a default on my credit rating.

So now the only concern is, would hellofresh bother to take me to court for $135.

update

chatted with a rep online. I explained 3 times.

Firstly I was offered a refund of my first box which I received a few weeks ago.

Then I was asked to pay for the second box.

Finally charge is waived.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure

    OP. Probably.

  • Where does it say that there is a $150 cut off?

OP is guessing and kind of believing that they are pretty sure this is the law.

    • I assume he’s referring to this, second dot point under defaults

  • You have to pay for the box.

I'm pretty sure that Hellofresh will want me to pay for this box

Or, you could ask them to come and pick it up if you had legitimately cancelled and they sent it in error.

If you kept it, then you would need to pay.

    • It was not the first time to take advantage of the first free box. And I do know timely cancellation is important and also because I tried to see what will happen if I just skip but not cancel, so I do remember that if I skip the second week, payment would still shown as due before second week delviery (even skipped). So I really think I cancelled it. But I have no admit that I can't be 100% sure as this happened like a month ago, plus my email doesn't have record of cancellation confirmation.

      • Pretty sure they send a 'Sorry to see you go, your last delivery will be XX' type email when you cancel?

        • Can confirm this is the case. If you cancelled you would have got a confirmation email.

        • Yes, they do, but only if you have managed to tick every box in the Cancellation of Subscription minefield on the Website only, NOT possible from the App.
That's when they bombard your email with ads and offers to return, and in my case, actual phone calls to get us to re-engage.
I DECLINED! Guess what? That phone call to me apparently activated a NEW unwanted and unwarranted subscription, resulting in never ordered unexpected food delivery, and demand for payment!! ( which they had already and illegally taken from my originally provided payment method… Debit Card ).
My understanding is that it is illegal for companies to continue to store any personal and including all payment/financial records from there data base, once a customer has disengaged/unsubscribed from their services.

Hellofresh has a sly way of getting you to pay more. The other day they called me and offered me a 40% discount on my next box. They said they would apply it to my account and I could use it whenever I like within the next 2 months. I said okay, go ahead, cant hurt. Hung up and logged into my account, and lo-and-behold they had reactivated my account with a box scheduled for next week.

They called me and said the same thing but from Every Plate.

I was busy at work so I asked for the survey to be emailed to me so I can do it in my own time and they said "no, needs to be done now to get the 40%" so I just said "no thanks" and hung up.

      Definitely dodgy practice.

I had the same. I told them I'd think about the offer and the guy was talking all happy like I said yes to it. Logged in and they had turned the subscription back on. I had already deauthorised PayPal, but I cancelled the order anyway. Hello Fresh was fine but the delivery driver never said hello and the food wasn't fresh, the carrots were like rubber five days after receiving it.

The rest in the box I received was ok. But the quality of carrots is constantly poor.

        • Which I don't understand because when I get carrots from Woolies they last months in the fridge.

          • @AustriaBargain: You're absolutely right. Refer to Negs on Product Review and other Review websites. HF standard scripted replies to reports of stale/rotten food, is that they 'receive only the freshest ingredients, WEEKLY'. However, they don't mention when THIS food is eventually distributed to customers?

Happened to me. Kept getting boxes. They'll chase you up for it later. Not much they can do if you ignore them.

  • I was surprised to see how easy it was to cancel Everyplate. Hello fresh is definitely dodgy.

It’s the same company and same website (reskinned).

  • I forgot which company but I ordered a free box +$9.95 delivery (first time with that company for that address but not its sister companies). One day after I ordered, they sent me a "sorry to see you go" email and cancelled my order. I was like lol ok whatever then. Next day I get a sms saying your order is coming and it was still delivered the day after. Never got chased up for payment so I ended up better off as I got free shipping 😊
