Still going to go get one for my son and myself.
I mean they still do? Just not so early in a generation. Sword and shield had quite a few in its last year.
While this is a bit of a silly giveaway, it fits the theme of the lechonk April fools theme and the whole "when pigs fly" thing.

So it's the same pokemon just as a different tera-type? What's the point. These tera-type raids and bonuses suck. Give us new pokemon or ones that actually look different
In this specific instance, the point was that it was an April Fools joke, a quite literal "pigs might fly". Australia and New Zealand just got the short end of the stick for some reason, getting the distributions later than the rest of the world.
Speaking of which… there's also a Lachonk TCG promo card that will be available at EB Games alongside this Pokémon code distribution. That one is a bonus for purchases of $15+ of Pokémon TCG product.
can a pokemon fanatic give me an ELI5 outline of the cards, collection, trading, dfifferent types of booster packs eg scarlet violet, teratypes, and the why?
my son is 7 and collecting some pokemon cards. all my experience is growing up and collecting them all on the gameboy game! haven't followed it for 15ish years so i have a good core but nothing else!

It should be noted that there's also a Lechonk TCG promo card being given away at EB Games on the same days as this Scarlet & Violent redemption code. Though you have to purchase $15+ of Pokémon TCG merch at an EB Games to get that one.
I think pokemon cards change series with the new pokemon game releases. So like for the last 4 years or so the booster packs were from the sword and shield series and now with the new game scarlet and violet, the booster packs will come out of that series and the previous series phased out IIRC

Man, I miss the shiny Legendary Pokemon TPC used to hand out. I used to get so excited to go out to EBGames and collect a shiny Palkia/Dialga/Reshiram/Zekrom.
A Lechonk with a slightly different tera-type and not even shiny is barely even worth the effort of posting this comment
