[Switch, SUBS] Pokemon Stadium Will Be Added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack @ Nintendo

900

Nintendo has announced it will be adding the original Pokémon Stadium to the Switch N64 service next week on 12th April.

This arena battle title was first released in 2000 and features "the original 151 Pokémon" from the Pokémon Red Version, Pokémon Blue Version and Pokémon Yellow Version games. It includes a selection of solo and multiplayer modes, including minigames. Nintendo has also confirms the following:

"Please note you cannot transfer Pokémon from Game Boy™ titles in this version."

"In Pokémon Stadium, you can battle it out solo with your chosen team of six Pokémon across four tournaments in Stadium mode or run it back against Kanto’s elite Trainers in Gym Leader Castle. Winning in either of these modes will secure a spot for your champion team in Victory Palace, but completing both modes will unlock a final battle to challenge even the ultimate Trainer.

"Looking for some multiplayer free-form fun? Compete in no-holds-barred battles with friends in the 1-4 player Free Battle mode, or party it up with a collection of nine minigames in the Kids Club. It might be called the Kids Club, but even seasoned Trainers may feel the heat in the Sushi-Go-Round kitchen, or after reaching new heights in Magikarp’s Splash!"

First video game bought for me by my father, still holds up to this day imo.

Still have the N64 somewhere and I think still have the Pokemon Stadium game. It was my second favourite. My favourite game was 007.

Yes mate! GoldenEye was a classic!! My brother and I used to play hide n seek with the Golden Gun

        • +1

I remember playing "Goldeneye" at school, where we'd run around the playground and pretend to shoot each other, "bang bang, you're dead, got you with the golden gun". Even the girls got into it.

Sweet. Just need to add Pokemon Red and Blue to NSO and allow them to link with this, and trade with people online, and NSO will be set.

      This + Yellow version!

The rental pokemon in this title sucked, importing your own from R/B/Y was the only way to beat this comfortably

Absolutely epic game though, still get it out every few months

Agreed, it's near impossible to defeat the harder trainers without using your own ones. Really wish they added R/B/Y for NSO.

      • They probably will, there's just less incentive, since GBC doesn't require you to shell out for the expansion pass.

        • They might even add some better rental Pokémon, or let you sync a default save file with some OP Pokemon, if they don't have plans to add RBY to NSO and let them sync. Nintendo have modified roms for NSO before, even though the point is to make it authentic experience.

          • @AustriaBargain: You would think they would release the GB games in conjunction with the release of Stadium if they were going to at all.

            • @Pub Envelope: Nah, I bet they saving that for when Switch sales start slowing down or when NSO subscription rates need a boost. The 3DS service only just got switched off so people could technically use a 3DS to acquire the old games before.

    • +4

That's okay, everyone just plays for the minigames anyway.

  • +5

Here's hoping you can link up online with three friends to get the most out of the minigames

Still waiting on Mario Party 3

    • Mario Party 3 is already available on n64 Expansion Pack :)

Have very fond times playing the mini games with the neighbours next door. And using it to play Pokemon Blue on the big screen.

Its sad to think that a lot of the fighting animations of the pokemon are actually superior in this game compared to some modern pokemon games.

  • Still gift pokemans in this game?

seeing this makes me so excited for other Pokemon games coming to the Switch…I'd love to eventually see titles like Emerald and Colosseum on NSO

o yes!!! the collection is getting better and better out of every paid subscription service from xbox, playstation, the Nintendo one its starting to be the best if it managers to get every single nintendo game on there it will have out paced what the competition all they need to do is have a gamecube collection.

I still remember hiring this game and being like 'Surely this isn't all you do, there must be more to it.'

Edit: misread thought this was pokemon snap

  • Was enough at the time in the 90s to quench Pokemon thirst, also pokemon snap was good. Biut I guess we wanted a proper pokjemon game even back then

    • +2

It took them way too long to make pokemon red / blue on a proper console, which is all anyone wanted.

      • +1

a 3d pokemon red and blue in the 64 era woulda been cool as

        • +1

We had one of those SNES cartridges you could put Gameboy games in to play on your tv. So I did play RBY on a console technically.
