What Is This Thing, a Portable Boom Gate?

https://youtu.be/GbXIN6IYahU?t=603

I've never seen one of these before, are they remote triggered by a lollipop fella or do they work on some sort of timer mechanism?

  • Just another method to try and prevent idiots from driving through worksites when they are supposed to stop.

It’s probably on remote, but could well be automated on a timer if the site is unmanned. Same as portable traffic light setup.

Its all very well to have a boom gate with a stop sign on it, but an obvious question would be whether you are under any legal obligation to obey it as you are a properly authorised person standing there with a sign telling you to stop.

Clearly the driver in the vehicle ahead of the one with the dashcam in it didn't think so. And they may well be right. The sign isn't authorised, its the properly authorised person holding it that you are required to obey.

You make up a lot of crap Gordan this is another one.

The sign isn't authorised, its the properly authorised person holding it that you are required to obey.

The state authority delegates authority to the person installing it.

But how do I know the person who installed it was authorised!?

How do I know that that 40km/h speed sign was installed by someone authorised, and not some punk kid who flogged it from another roadworks site!?

All road signs should have an authorised sign, like they do with political advertising!

        (/s, in case it's necessary…)

    • Why not just throw a full long neck at it. If it falls over drive on by.

Operated by remote by the traffic controller on the other side of the road.
They’ve become more common after instances of workers holding stop/go signs being hit by vehicles.
