Homemaker HMWMXQB50 Washing Machine, Only Cold Water Side Has Suddenly Stopped Filling?

So, this is an oldie but goodie washer & we want to keep it going. Kmart AU Homemaker HMWMXQB50. We'd had a leaky hot water hose at one point and just decided to forget hot and go cold only, saving gas/power/no worries. Been working for years.

In our newest place, the laundry sink is next to the washer and has a long spout, so we've been manually filling it with hot for the wash cycle that way.

Yesterday, it suddenly stopped filling after the wash & spin cycle. We checked the basics and no go. I then had the bright idea of trying the "hot" setting but with the cold water line running to the hot side— and it worked!

However, since all three rinse cycles are "cold" only, I have to manually set it back to its "hot" (w/cold line attached) wash cycle in order to rinse/spin.

I'm hoping given these details, that a knowledgeable washer repair person can tell me the likely issue/failed part so I can tear it down & replace it.

Thanks, everyone!

PS: the cold water side is not blocked- it was working fine the previous wash minutes before, but we checked anyway.

The cold water solenoid valve has failed. You may be able to swap the hot with the cold or find a new one.

    • the cold water solenoid valve is probably worth double what the machine is worth

Maybe, but they have two in the machine. So OP could swap the hot/cold ones around ;)

But I'm sure its a off the shelf generic part, so only a few dollars once you know which one to get.

        • Solenoids are generic. Ive swapped between bosch front loader solenoids to f&p top loaders

Often happens, they spray them around seeking help.

  • Thanks everyone. I haven't been able to check back until today. @JimmyF

You say there are two. How do I get into this machine? I've looked everywhere and don't see the manual for this model. This one does not have any touch electronics nor displays— it's all manual turn/push/pull knobs.
