Recommendation for 0 to 8 yr old Convertible Carseat

Hi All,

We are looking for a carseat that would be suitable for my bub preferably convertible to be forward facing and rearward facing and is suitable up to 8yrs old.

Thanks for your kind replies!

  • budget, and car type? some car convertible seats are very wide, so you can't sit someone in the middle

    • We have an SUV at the moment and only child. Old carseat is at the middle at the moment.

    Just get a 0-4 and then a 4-8. Will probably be easier/better.

    • Thought of the budget and we thought having just one for 2 reasons would be cheaper overall.

You sell the 0-4 when the time comes

        4-8 seats are pretty cheap.

8 year old seat may become pretty grubby, worse if you want to use it for a second child.

Also with the hars Australian sun, the plastic in seats can become less reliable, so 2 x 4 years may be safer than 1 x 8 years, even if they should last 10 years

You will have to own a super long car to fit a forward and rear facing 0-8yr childseat - and to only have 1 child.

it will also depend on the weight and size of your child,

at 6 years old. you could have a tall and chubby kid and the 0-8yrs seat will no longer fit,

    0-4 and then 4-8

planning for something that long into the future may not work out

We did 1 0-4 seat for our oldest child. He stayed rear facing in that until just before the arrival of his little sister at 3.5years.

We then purchased a Britax maxi guard pro for him and saved his 0-4 seat for the new arrival. She is still in that now at 4 because she still fits in it while our older child is still in that maxi guard pro at age 7.

Wouldn't bother with a 0-8. Just get a 0-4, especially if you might possibly have a second child. 4-8 carseats are much cheaper anyways, so you won't save much by getting a 0-8.

We did one 0-4 (Britax Graphene) for one car that is our main family car. When our boy was about 2yr we bought a Maxi-Cosi Luna Smart for the other car, although it is only forward facing. To have a 0-8yr rear facing seat, your car would have to be HUGE. I've got a Prado and the other car is a Landcruiser and I still wouldn't do it… but whatever works for you. If it was on the passenger side they'd have no leg room and if it was in the drivers side I would struggle to drive the car - and I'm not even tall! From the other comments here it looks like they aren't very popular and might explain why there aren't many models available in that category.

  • 0-4 is range only. Some kids may last till 5/6. It depends on their torso length and growth rate.

Budget - baby love way switch. But has draw backs with manual harness etc.
But for ERF, ease of use and compact go with britax graphene.

  • Bought this for $599 two years ago: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07KLRT8WJ/ref=ppx_od_d…

Still holding strong - but I do see what one of the above replies said about it being grubby. Snacks, leaves, etc get stuck there and you need to be very vigilant in cleaning it out. Fabric get worn out as well. Only time will tell if it makes it to 8 years.
