  • Most people who would, have already been using the VIC energy compare. The $250 is a handout without as much expectation of ROI as the last one, but they probably figured they might as well tie it to VIC energy compare to squeeze a bit more benefit from it. This is my speculation.

They should change the slogan to "Victoria, the hand-out state"

Gees, imagine being mad about this.

You also mad about all the hand outs given by state/federal governments to landlords and religious institutions and multi national corporations?

Decades ago the Government doomed future generations upon generations of Australians to the inevitable fluctuations of energy prices because they wanted to profit off what privatisation would do. We are consuming our own resources yet we pay some foreign company for our own stuff.

So if anything any hand outs today are a token in interest repayments they stole from you when money actually meant anything. Of course time goes by and we shouldn't dwell on the past so just take the payment with a smile and move on….just never forget when the next shill is in town

Not sure what other states are doing, but Victoria is addressing this by re-establishing the Victoria Energy Commission.

@GG57: Yeah, Imagine if petrol was expensive in Saudi Arabia.Thats the situation with Gas and Electricity prices in Australia even though Australia has loads of gas and coal.

URL for those who still need to compare for the $250: https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ (e.g., me)

    • Love ya work….

but some of the names of these providers sound so dodge….

      I can save 300/yr changing from tango…
So - has anyone called and bargained with their current provider? Wondering if its worth sitting on hold for hours or not.

      • Tango is real. Definitely call your current provider and say the rates being offered by Tango or whoever and your current provider will offer a better deal. Like every company there are deals which are exclusive only to people who call and bargain

Lumo locked in price from last year is $300 cheaper for me, so did nothing

  • I was a bit confused by their suggestions to be honest - their numbers didn't add up to my own calculations.

I did find one energy supplier which seemed approximately $40 better a year but not sure it's worth the hassle to change tbh.

They're also reviewing my $250 offer for some reason as they said it appeared odd. Not sure why.

    • I just changed to simply energy, and agree that if somehow my old retailer had better rates for both daily and usage charges even though they were telling me Simply is cheaper

I believe simply energy offer 11% off your bill, so thus 11% off the rates displayed on the compare website.
Secondly, simply energy gave $110 credit for switching to them which I believe may be included in their price on the website

In my case, the cheapest is always Energy Locals so no need to jump ship.

    • And of all the providers around, they’re one of the least bad.
