This was the game that I've dedicated 700 hours into, I highly recommend it!
For new players, don't worry too much about mastering the melee combat, you can kill seasoned players in all sorts of funny and hideous ways, including but not limited to:
- Using ranged weapons, bring a long bow, bring two short bows, bring a melee weapon then switch to a crossbow (Remember, switching to your crossbow is always faster than fainting)
- Running naked with a maul/zweihander to those who are distracted
- Using firebombs on choke points then luring them to your teammates
- Pretending to be friendly to your enemies then whack them with a maul
I wish I could enjoy a game enough to put 700 hours into.

Edit: I’m not ripping on blueastro! I was just remembering as I commented that I’m in my thirties and massive time sinks are a double edged sword
It depends how much time you have, and how many games you play. I have a handful of games I have put a lot of time into. Then a few others with much less time, but most games don't interest me.
With games like Mordhau, it's the type of game you can play for 30 mins as often as you like. There is no story. You just play for fun.
Then you have giant time sinks with story, where playing short sessions, often with long breaks inbetween, means people forget what they were doing.
I totally agree with you, I feel the same thing with story-driven games where I could not afford to put too much attention into them but then I'd forget about the story after a while when trying to get back to them.
Mordhau (and other similar games) was something that I could play after work every day for an hour or two, put it down afterwards and forget about it.
I did not even notice my playtime and only until the days that I uninstall it due to the lack of players I found myself already at nearly 700 hours. If I tell myself to invest 700 hours into a game I'd already given up 30 minutes in.(I think the downvotes came from others misunderstanding you, don't worry about it)
there's usually just one invasion/frontline server worth connecting to every night, that's 48 people but that's usually cream of the cream if you know what I'm sayin'
