Sounds Like Least Cost Routing Is Getting Attention

On News recently.

This does suggest a growing momentum to push LCR to more merchant.

But ofcourse Banks and companies do not want to loose extra money from the Credit network

Still if population demands it to be more adapted Australia could get a more wide acceptance of this

  • Will I still get my 2% cashback for using HSBC debit card?

you can try at any merchant you know who has Least cost routing enabled.

But I personally doubt it, because the whole purpose of it is to get transactions processed through EFTPOS wherever possible.

And that likely wont be earning BANKS that much profit to pass customers 2% back

Use google pay and you will always get it

    • Do new HSBC debit cards even have dual networks?

interesting information. my local fruit shop automatically assumes you're using tap and go when paying by card and adds the surcharge without telling you.

  • There needs to be incentive/penalties for merchants and not driven by customer demands. Merchants already passing on transaction costs at POS or inflated price. Alternative payment method may push Visa/Mastercard payment network to adopt LCR by default on their machine. For example, some places accept QR code payment that offer customer with cashback (eg shopback). That competition will be the driver.

    • Video suggests its more of lack of support from banks, visa/Mastercard and then merchants like small family business owners
