Just bought the A80J 55” from JB. After about 6 hours use it just switched itself off and the red standby light has begun blinking 5 times. Is it cooked?

How would we know. Unplug it fully for half an hour and try again.
If so, head back to store and get it exchanged or refunded. It happens to all electronics.
I've gotta say in my experience Sony has shit QC - their products either work brilliantly, or not at all.
Call the store and ask for a replacement

Only Not YetDead after 2 days… Leaves a bit of a sour taste. My last Sony is still going strong 15 years later. Would ppl recommend a replacement or refund? Or go with something else?
Most common issue with Sony and Panasonic, I would go the 55CS from LG or the C2 if you can get a good deal
The CS model is a C1 panel with the C2 processor
It doesn't matter which brand, time to time there is a bad fruit. Its your call, do whatever easy, replacement or refund Or go with something else.
My lg G2 died after a week. Currently awaiting a replacement being delivered
Annoying, but not a single tv brand would have zero failures or issues. If they did, we wouldnt need warranties.

First two weeks up to a month they can swap out on the spot at any JB..

My A90J 83" died similar way (blinking red 4 times) last month after a couple of months of usage. Might be a power supply issue. SONY's preferred repairer first thought its an OLED panel, they changed the panel but no use. They ordered a power supply to replace it. I wanted a replacement cause multiple components fail for an expensive TV. SONY issued a refund just yesterday.
2 second google suggests fuse/board issue. Call jb to discuss when they are next open and see if you can just get a doa swap if it’s truly 6 hours in.
