Tactics Ogre was quite enjoyable. Certainly not perfect, but a good story, very well written characters and a cool class system.

A challenge, but bosses could be frustrating as the rebalanced leans too heavily into card buffs.

If you're on the fence regarding console, Switch makes the most sense. The graphics don't benefit much from PS4 let alone 5.

I am playing this right now. There is a legthy side quest which would be a game on its own. (100 levels)

There is a level cap at union level (level at certain point in the story) which means you cant overlevel and steamroll enemies until you find the good gears. Overall a fantastic game with a lot of replay value as it has branching story path.

      Switch is still $49 though

      • Fair enough. Probably explains why they're trying to move PS copies then.

      • Generally Nintendo has a policy of no matter what game they try not to push it down to dirt cheap since it's still everyone's big effort to make a game (if it's on the Nintento platform).

Nintendo has no control over pricing for games that are not their own.

The recent sales have been great for filling in the JRPG collection. These two, as well as Star Ocean, Soul Hackers, Harvestella and Diofeld are all quite reasonably priced. Especially if you use eBay and vouchers.

  • I thought 2 for $29. but reborn for 29 is still a very good price.

  • $26.97 on ebay for tactics

  • No comments on Valkyrie? Would like to know

Good hack 'n slash with light RPG elements. It's more like a Ninja Gaiden game, which makes sense because the developer has a lot of ex-Team Ninja developers. The combat has a fair bit of strategy because you need to switch to different elemental skills and Einherjars (basically your party members you can summon into battle). The environments are fairly bland with linear paths and most fights occur in large square spaces, similar to DMC5 and other recent hack n' slash games like Stranger of Paradise. It does not have the interesting and varied level design of Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2. The music is fairly forgettable too although there's a couple of good tracks. A bit of a disappointment there considering the original game has an incredible soundtrack and it's done by the same composer. Overall, it's a good game but nothing amazing and a poor entry into the Valkyrie series. It is better than similar recent games like Stranger of Paradise and for $29 it's well worth it.

      • Yeah the profile view was what made Valkyrie series. They've filled a void in the release timeline but mainly for newcomers.

      • Thanks for this, I picked up today valkyrie Elysium from Richmond nsw

Very good game, highly recommended if you like tactics. 100% voice acting is awesome too.

  • Final fantasy tactics is awesome if you really like these kind of games and I wish they do a remake and do a voice over like tactics ogre as the voice actors did a fine job. I really enjoy these tactical games and its like playing a game of chess and I get immersed in the battles strategising every moves.

I played front mission series, triangle strategy, fire emblem series, ff tactics and now tactics ogre.

  • I really enjoyed Valkyrie Elysium! It can drag a bit at times, but it's a fun gameplay loop. The story and world were enjoyable, defs worth it for $29

  • I can definitely recommend Tactics Ogre at this price, had a really good time with it.

Silly question, but does Valkyrie Elysium come with Profile? I expect not since I don't see any mention of it here, but hoping regardless!
