  • How often do you open it up for cleaning?

  • does it come with aussie cable? i don't like having ugly plugs and adaptors in my kitchen

    • The one I bought from them had a curious sort've adaptor. I'd call it functionally ugly but mines in a cupboard so don't care. You may.

    • +1

It comes with an adapter that wraps around the plug with unidirectional screws (sort of security screws), once tightened cannot be undone easily. I guess it's to workaround regulations requiring a "permanent" solution.

The orientation of the plug (after wrapped by the adapter) have the cable sticking out (pointing away from the wall), it's quite unsightly if exposed in plain view.

    • +1

It's quite an ugly adaptor but quite secure as it screws in place, unlike those cheap Chinese adaptors. I'm happy using it as is. You could cut the plug off and install an Aussie plug if you so wish (Would probably void your warranty though)

Also, make sure you buy the 230/240v version and not the 110v unless you want to use a hunking great step-down converter!

    • The one I bought from them had the UK plug. I used it with the adapter for a while and eventually got an Aussie plug for it.

      • Was it hard to replace the power cables, or is it a standard jig-plug or something like that? Thanks

        • +1

It was the standard UK plug that comes with a fuse.

It can be replaced by an appliance repair place or electrician - or if you feel lucky and don't care about the law on electrical work, you can change it over with a flat plug from Bunnings

  • +2

I have this and can confirm it's well worth the money spent. Especially at this price it's a no brainer

  • +1

I have had one for a year now. Provides a great grind, paired it with the little Bambino (plus?extra?pro?) which shows it's worth investing more in the grinder.

Bought the overseas model with the wrapped adapter. Fast shipping.

  • +1

Mignon Specialita is a good grinder for the price, with the right accessory the retention becomes negligible. may very well be the ultimate home grinder for many people, upgrading to 65mm burr will grind a bit faster but may not deliver better coffee as some would hope.

  • +1

Have this with a Breville Dual Boiler - works great

  • I went from a rocky to this with BDB, night and day.

  • I love mine. The only drawback is the metal thing you rest the group head on is pretty flimsy and doesn't hold it in place very well for hands free grinding. The grinder itself is fantastic.

    • I took it off the first day, you don't really need it, I use a dosing funnel to minimise the mess which won't fit anyways.

      • Dosing funnel definitely fits (I use one), just gotta adjust the clip with a screwdriver.

  • What's the life expectancy of this unit?

    • +1

it's an induction ac motor direct drive and mechanically simple unlike brushed motors and gearbox like the niche.

Only thing that might possibly die is the lcd control panel, if that ever happens I'll just wire the motor direct to the power switch.

  • This Eureka plus single dosing mods or DF 64?

  • I’m sort of a coffee noob. Are there any accessories I should add from this site? I am about to put an order for a BDB to go with this.

    • +3

Not necessarily from this site, but do yourself a huge favour and buy some 0.1g (specifically 0.1g accuracy, not 1g) measuring scales. Weighing your ground beans for consistency will take so much guesswork out of your experience when dialling in your espresso.

      • Thanks mate, I’ve made a note of it

        • would probably get the Motta 58.5mm tamper from that website if it's still available, the standard BDB tamper is useless, and the 58.5mm Motta tamper is a perfect fit, i've got it myself

  • Got this paired with my Ranc Silvia.
Can be finicky with grind settings depending on beans, but once you have it set, it's great.

  • had one of these for about a week, looks nice but bur got stuck all the time, took it in to the service department and they advised this is common and need to be cleaned weekly too much maintenance returned it

    • +4

Not true, the service department is telling you porkies.

I've done a full clean once in 12 months and use it 3 times a day at least. Mine has gotten stuck maybe 3 times in 12 months and it was due to making size adjustments after grinding rather than during. 99% of the time it won't matter but every now and then if it's a big change in grind size best practice is to do it while grinding.

    • +1

I've never cleaned mine and still working flawlessly.

      • Me too, one year of use…… I should clean it but had no problems.

    • Non sense lol
      Yours was probably defective.
If you don't clean it regularly it may impact on the quality of coffee but it definitely won't make the burrs become stuck

  • Kinda want the Libra but it's hard to justify the price difference with this. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the built in scale.

    • There's no built in scale here, only timed dosing with a touch screen

  • Been using the Dual boiler + SGP for the past 3 years

Single dose, WDT, 22g in 35-42g out, 28-35 seconds including 8 second pre infusion time. For the past 2.5 years I haven't come across a barista-made coffee that tastes better than what I make at home.

Apart from low retention and being quieter, is there any other benefits of getting a more expensive grinder than the SGP? Been considering an upgrade but haven't been able to determine any real benefits that I'd be getting from a 'better' grinder that would improve the taste of the coffee

    • Absolutely. you will get noticeably better grind quality and last much longer, the SGP has plastic gears which don't last long.

    • Faster grinding (half the SGP) and less clumping. I'd probably wait until the SGP noticeably degrades however since it's a bit wasteful if you're not having issues.

    • Well the main thing is that this is stepless, you can dial in your grind to the perfect level as opposed to the SGP where you're forced to stay on a certain grind setting and can't go between.

    • SGP is a pretty horrible grinder. Terrible clumping, massive amount of retention and slow to grind. It takes a lot of work (and guesswork) to be consistent. I am surprised you have never been to a cafe that makes better coffee. I home roast and use Lelit Elizabeth with Specialita grinder and while average cafes don't come close to what I make, there are speciality cafes that do make better coffee than what I make at home

You will definitely taste the difference in the coffee stepping up to this grinder.

  • Have one of these at work that grinds easily 40 shots a day. Has been flawless for the past 12 months. It's very quiet as well for a grinder.

  • I bought one from them a couple of years ago and I am happy with it. It is consistent on grind quality and dose. It is quieter and faster than my Quamar.

The only issue (besides coming with a UK plug) is what others have said and that is, if you want to drastically change grind settings (espresso to pour-over), the adjustment is very fine, so you will be turning the knob a lot of times. The good news is the adjustment is very fine and step-less, so you can make very small adjustments to your dose as conditions change.

    • Its not an ideal grinder for pour-over anyways, for espresso when you get the hang of it adjustment is not hard. Niche Zero is definitely better in terms of adjustment.

  • Have this with DBD. No one talks about how quiet this is! Its crazy silent for a grinder.

I am having second thoughts about ozbargain!

  • Honestly the eureka mignon manuale is the way better option for cheapskates.

It's 174 euro on espressocoffeeshop right now, get a coupon code and add on shipping and you're laughing.

It's more barebones but perfect for single dosing if you buy a single dosing hopper/bellows

    • honestly i should make a separate post but i can't be bothered

    • +1

yeah I have been eyeing the Manuale as well, no doubt the Specialita is nice, but is it really worth an extra $170? not for a tight arse like me anyway…………

the previous code I got for the Manuale doesn't seem to work so I have asked Espresso for another one, fingers crossed.

They have a sale on two kick ass machines . Profitec pro 700 and lelit bianca.
Fr anyone after a grail type machine you can't go past both of these options.
    Pro 700 - Delivered Just under $3.5K https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/en/dual-boiler-espresso-m…
Lelit Bianca currently OOS but is even cheaper at $3330 delivered this has a flow control but smaller boilers. https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/en/dual-boiler-espresso-m…

    • When you add the import tax and the cost of possible warranty claim it may no longer seem attractive.

      • The import tax would still make these almost $1000 cheaper than local pricing. Warranty issues is a valid concern. I suspect these are so well built that you wouldn't need to but that's an expensive risk

        • Agreed, if you can manage the risks its still a good purchase. may not suit everyone though, for grinders the choice is much easier - the chance of needing repair is very minimal.

  • When do you change the burr? It's been 2 years now, working perfectly.

    • +1

No need to change, probably in its lifetime

Don't worry about it, just clean the insides once in a while

      • I printed the single dose funnel for it but the air pump was not perfect upon couple of attempts, it leaked air. So I gave up.

I wish to have a nice single dose setup. The problem is pop corn effect is strong, probably need a new bellows with it.

The grinder looks good as it is in black though.

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking about upgrading the burr. Now I know I really don't have to think about it. I use vaccum to suck all the residue grind. Don't have the courage to open it up. It hard, as per some videos on YT.

        • It's not hard, give it a go!

You can buy a single dosing kit from Etsy sellers, super popular, just go on Etsy and search Eureka mignon and plenty of options will come up.
          They usually deliver from Europe.
          It will cost 40-50$

          • @Khartoum: Hmm I'll try, thanks mate. These days bought a 22g VST basket, it's giving a lot of new flavor. When I compared with stock, both are identical. Only difference is size.

With puck screen and 20g dost, stock is a bit smaller.

  • I have the silenzio version of this (no LCD), paired with a rocket giotto. Very nice, consistent grinder for pulling shots at home; I just have to make very minor adjustents depending on bean density (less than +1 to -1 twists of the finess dial).

  • I doubt it comes with AU plug though. I can't find any information about.

If I can make a recommendation for a good service and expertise in coffee machines/grinders and everything coffee related is:

    https://eastlinkespresso.com.au.

DISCLOSURE Through the years, from a regular client I became a friend with the owner but the recommendation is genuine..Google reviews speak for themselves tbh.

    • Their price is around $750 for this grinder.

I found the adapter supplied from espressocoffeeshop to be excellent. You sit the plug inside the adapter and screw on the cover so it's not a big bulky thing. Similar to this design: Link

  • Thanks for posting this.

Given this machine is being bought from overseas, where do people get this machine serviced locally?
