In time to get my cannabis stock replenished.

Got any specials on boogie board bags?

    • +1

lol, you can get it in the US and Canada now, Amsterdam is nothing special anymore.

    • +4

You can just get it in Bangkok now. No need to go all the way to Amsterdam.

      • How much can you carry without the being detected at the airport?

        • Depends how much you can fit up your backside?

    • Cannabis is not legal in the Netherlands.

  • Anyone flown with this airline? Could be a good way to break up a long trip, with a 15-hour layover

    • +1

Yes, was pre COVID, but very new planes (787, IIRC) with free WiFi, if you signed up for it. Though you got Chinese internet even before entering China.

I didn't have any issues with the flight, baggage or stopover.

      Based on what?

Probably need a bit more info for your neg to stay. Something about you or someone close to you, like lost luggage, massive delays without compensation or the food made you sick.

A stay away is probably not enough justification.

I like this one the most:

On November 2019 I was booked for the flight traveling from Seoul to Vancouver but at the check-in counter they denied my boarding because I looked fatter than my passport photo. What the hell!

      • -1

Apparently mods think this is enough justification for a neg when I reported this. What a joke.

        • welcome to ozbargain moderation

        • +1

Mods leave it up to the community to decide. Been like that for years.

It's not a valid Neg under Voting Guidelines - no reason given.

Rule is: 8 neg votes for comment & their Neg disappears! Only 3 more needed.

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Neg vote for Deal has been removed by community.

      Hi @iamthecaptainnow

I haven't flown XiamenAir myself so cannot give a review. Can you give the reason for your neg?

      • +1

He wants to be a troll but doesn't have the handle

    • -1

You really can't neg a deal because you had a bad experience, it's still a cheap deal.

Yes you can, read the voting rules.

On October 2, 1990, Xiamen Airlines Flight 8301 from Xiamen to Guangzhou, a Boeing 737-200 jetliner, was hijacked shortly after takeoff and collided with two additional aircraft upon landing at Baiyun International Airport, killing 128 people.[49]

On April 30, 2008, Xiamen Airlines Flight 8052, a Boeing 737-700 registered B-2992, nearly collided with China Southern Airlines Flight 6621 on the runway of Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport. The Xiamen Airlines flight mistakenly entered runway 10 without informing the tower, and while the China Southern Airlines flight had started its take off roll. The China Southern flight immediately started emergency braking and turned to one side to avoid a collision, and came to a complete stop with the front wheels of the two aircraft only 35 meters apart. After the incident, the Xiamen Airlines flight crew did not follow the tower's instructions to cancel the flight for investigation, and even erased the black box record in an attempt to evade responsibility. The captain of Xiamen Airlines was eventually suspended from flying. The flight operator's rights to operate the flight were also revoked.[50]

On August 16, 2018, XiamenAir Flight 8667 crash-landed at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines amidst heavy monsoon rains. The Boeing 737-800 skidded off the end of the runway. All 157 passengers and crew were unharmed.[51] According to Flightradar24 data, the flight aborted its first landing attempt.[52][53][54]As a result, the accident aircraft was parked on Runway 06/24, which is used for large aircraft, and the runway was closed for a long time until noon on the 18th.[55]

probably safer than many other airlines

I as the captain dont hold responsibility for this

    • Seems pretty good. Basically no deaths or injuries in 33 years.

  • Xiamen Airlines, a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, provides free transit hotel accommodation if the layover time at the airport exceeds six hours. Overall, it ranks in the upper-middle range among Chinese airlines.

    • be prepared to wait 5 hours at the airport for them to shuttle you to your free hotel. source: been there done that

      • +2

You are 100% right, when I stayed overnight during transit in Xiamen, I took Uber to the hotel by myself. $3 and 10mins

        • how did you find out which hotel they had given you? we had to wait for the bus to fill. then the airline rep had to check us in at the hotel

          • +2

@belongsinforums: You can select hotels by yourself on their app or communicate with them on-site. I went to Xiamen Airlines' self-operated hotel twice, which is a four-star hotel with breakfast included. It was pretty good. I heard from the Chinese community that if you don't request, they may arrange a faraway three-star hotel for you.

            • @K01: thanks for the info. mine was basic but close to the airport.

              • +2

@belongsinforums: Another trick is that Chinese airlines typically adjust their flight schedules in April and October each year, with flights usually being shifted by around half an hour. Once your flight has been changed, it is considered an involuntary change, and you can contact the official customer service to get a free refund or reschedule. If the economy class on the date you want to change to is full, you may even be upgraded to a higher class for free.

Are you buying a flight or multiple headaches ?

  • a lot of these have 10-30 hour layovers. that's fine as Europe is brutal with small layovers but what is China's rules on transiting ? can I leave airport? do I need a visa ?

    • some cities have a transit visa that allows you to leave the airport for a day or two. best to check rules yourself. if you've never been, be prepared for a bit of culture shock. fun if you know what you're doing but the language is a huge barrier for many aspects of everyday life

    • 144 hours visa free for Australian transit in Xiamen city.

  • +2

Been with them pre COVID time. Overall it was better than the major Chinese airlines like Air China, China Eastern and Southern. Not sure they kept the benefit of free wifi now.
