Travel Insurance for Europe

Any advice for Travel Insurance for Europe?

I am in France, then Italy for 3 weeks and leaving via Netherlands.

I will be there around 30 days.

I booked Business class with points, therefore I couldn't get free travel insurance with my AMEX.

Thank you!

  • Check your AMEX card first….I think if you booked the accommodation with the credit card you can still get free travel insurance. Most credit said if you spent $x amount for your trip for flight/accommodation/signseeing tour/etc, you are still eligible for travel insurance.

    • My mate booked most the hotels, Airbnbs.

  • You can usually get insurance through Amex if you booked your outbound flight with points:

corresponding American Express Membership Rewards points /Qantas Points / Velocity Points (where applicable); and/or

    • All my flights were booked through Krisflyer with points.

    • clarification, you must have directly used or converted your AMEX membership points, to be eligble

      • I did pay my taxes with AMEX?

I JUST CANCELLED THE CARD ANYWAYS.

I applied for a Commonwealth Bank Qantas bonus card which has full comprehensive free travel insurance.

        • +1

Nope, so you must do both. Pay the taxes, as well as have converted AMEX membership points or used AMEX membership points to ultimately book your flight

  • Do you have a CBA credit card? They provide insurance without needing to have bought the flights/travel with their credit card.

    • I bank with them, but no CC.

  • Don't rely on any travel insurance policy without reading the terms and conditions to see if it covers the risks you want it to cover, given your particular circumstances. There is no standard policy. Quite a few credit card policies have very extensive exclusions that substantially reduce your protection - the same also applies to some policies not linked to credit cards.

  • Both times I went to Europe I used Southern Cross Travel Insurance, good reviews and good price. Didn't make a claim so can't comment on that aspect.

  • If you have had Covid check to see if you need to declare it as a pre existing medical condition.
