ASUS ZenWiFi AX Mini (XD4) Wi-Fi 6 Mesh System - Good or No?

I'm currently looking at a ASUS Zenwifi Mini XD4 setup.

Is this a good unit for just average use of 2 people?

I'm just looking for a simple set and forget unit. My old Netgear nighthawk requires constant resets even though I've updated the firmware and the range is a little stretched at opposite ends of the house.

  • Unless you have a really massive space, a 3 unit mesh pack seems a little overkill, especially for two people. You don't say where the Netgear was positioned, but if the main router is pretty central to the house then should should be able to get good coverage. What's the location of the router and what's the shape of the house?

  • definitely overkill with mesh 3 units but its a good used price from a dude.. long narrow house and the router is at one end. the microwave in the middle kills reception.

      Can you use 5GHz instead?

      • Depends on what the wireless backbone is running over, but the range of 5GHz is very short compared to 2.4 (microwave interference).

  • I've got these set up at my home (only using one from my triple pack purchased at a great price) with a cabled backbone to an RT-AX88U. Works well most of the time, although occasional problems occur which rectify after a reboot (don't know why). Generally happy with the XD4 but I'm thinking to move away from Aimesh, probably to an Omada/Ubiquity based solution in the coming year or two.
