Note that this watch has no seconds hand

They must have run out of stock.

That watch is completely missing the point of being an automatic. That's a lot of money for a SwIsSwATcH. Meh.
At least one's won't notice if it's running slow or fast…

Plenty of high end Swiss watches don’t have a second hand. H Moser in particular, VC patrimony and some AP Royal Oak models to name a few.

Also, a seconds hand isn’t going to tell you a watch is running fast or slow. A good mechanical runs in the order of +/- 10 seconds a day. A poor one might be +/- 60 to warrant a service.

There’s no way you could time a minute off a digital clock and compare the watch given a 60 second error per day would equate to your missing seconds hand moving faster or slower than required by a mere 0.07%.

          Nope, still pointless

@ShouldIBuyIt: MeisterSinger only had enough stock for one hand but decided to keep selling them anyway.

@WatchNerd: Woah, that is fricken awesome. I just randomly looked at the lunascope model to see how it works.. It's literally 5 minute increments per marker yeah? So you don't even get the exact minute time. Damn rich people can afford to be late by +/- 5 minutes.. 🤣

It's not a lot of money for a Swiss watch though? There's a lot more that are a lot more than this one.

Also, it's a dress watch. The idea is to have as few complications as possible, hence the lack of a second hand. It'd also be better if it didn't a date window…

      • It's a… USD300 watch. Who cares.

Also… the 'point' of an automatic is moot anyway, if sub-second timekeeping is your goal. So again, who cares.

Try to get one second hand.

Jazzmasters wouldnt need a watch as they never play in time anyway.

Always wanted a Khaki Field for fun, but not for $400USD. I remember them being a lot cheaper.

    • RRP is over $1000 AUD now so this is a pretty good price. With 10% off it comes out to around $370 USD delivered.

      • +1

Still 550AUD for something I only want for fun. I'd rather get this. Idc that it's quartz

        • +1

Even though it's asymmetrical, I always liked that one.

Watching Interstellar on a plane once, and thought that the watch looked familiar. Though mine has a date, and the second hand doesn't bounce around.

    • +1

The first time I bought a Khaki Field mechanical (the normal 38mm non-patina version) I'm pretty sure it wasn't much over $300 AU, which was a bargain to get a Swiss powered handwind at the time.

I just had a look on Hamilton's website and they're saying $900 RRP now. :| Hahahaha.

    bargain for ETA 2892-2

    • What does that feature do?

      • It runs without second hand.

      • +2

It's the movement which dives the hands and date complication.

This is a good price for a Hamilton.

  • Where's the fun of an automatic without the seconds hand

  • Lovely hi-beat movement with microadjustment, so dead easy to adjust to COSC (-4to+6s/day). The problem with a seconds hand is that it takes time to hack the watch and get second hand dead on. Second, you notice the wrong time - a typical auto is +/-20s/day. Even after adjusting you're going to notice the increasing inaccuracy. No seconds hand and you probably won't notice it until it's a minute or two out. Nice slim, dress watch. https://watchbase.com/eta/caliber/2892-a2 https://calibercorner.com/eta-caliber-2892-a2/

  • 21 Jewels

What do jewels do in a watch? Or are they just decorative.

    • +1

      Bearings

      • +2

This. Polished gems have very low friction, and when it comes to mechanical watches any friction would reduce power reserve from the mainspring.

FWIW the jewels are now all synthetic rubies as opposed to genuine cut rubies of the past.

        • Thanks!
