New Single Bed Mattress. Is There an OzBargain Favorite or Recommendation?

Hi all,

My ALDI mattress is getting a bit dated and I'm considering a new one. Overall, I'm on the fence about the quality/performance of the ALDI mattress. It wasn't bad, but not good, but then again it was only like $140 at the time, cheap for a mattress, so can't really complain.

ALDI does have a mattress again coming up on Saturday, $149, but I thought I'd ask you knowledgeable Ozbargainers if you know of, or have recommendations on other $150~ mattresses?

A quick search found other threads from 1-2years ago where an eBay brand 'Zzz' was mentioned. Visually it looks good, but I'm suspect on an eBay mattress tbh.

On another note, would there be any 'Australian made' single bed ($200~) mattresses that get the OzBargain thumbs up? and are there often deals on them?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

  • Aldi mattress ok lol how's your back?

    • Back's fine. Sure it's ALDI and probably not that high of quality, but I'm willing to bet many people get a sore back sleeping on $1000+ mattresses.

Ikea - big range, great quality and really good warranties too. You can sleep on it for a year and if you don't like it, just return it.

Which city are you in? I make mattresses and whenever someone wants a cheap mattress I always refer them to this place, it's in Sydney though. Here is a link to there single mattresses. https://www.loungeincomfort.com.au/single-size-mattresses.

I used to sell this guys mattresses many many years ago, and I was always blown away by how cheap he sells them. For what they are, I'd say they are the best value for money in Sydney when it comes to pure durability for price.

The ultimate rest on this page ($349) in particular is a serious mattress for the price. I used to sell this exact model and can vouch for it. It's a super thick pocket spring mattress with heaps of very decent quality foam on top. Great feel as well, decent support but still padded and comfy.

There is one for $120, However it's very thin on the foam. For $120 though, it's still probably the best buy in sydney. Hope it helps!

    • You make mattresses? How did you get into that

My mate got hold of some mattresses, we chucked them in the loungeroom and sold them on gumtree, that was 14 years ish ago, now I have a factory haha

  • I think ZZZ atelier is the ozbargain favourite. You buy them when Ebay is running promo. I bought twice from them for my guest bedroom and they're decent for the price.

    • I've been sleeping on one for 4 years and it's still fine. Probably got at least a year or two left in it which, for a queen bed that cost under $250, is a bargain. I like to switch mattresses every 6-8 years anyway, they're mostly made up of dead bed mites by that stage.

  • Single is a bit small for n adult innit?

    • -1

      That's what I thought.

    • Single mattress is like 2m long. Seems like a fine length for an adult. shrug

      • +1

        It's only 188cm long.

  • I got a Queen from Zzz Atelier 3 or 4 yrs ago. Still going strong and ridiculous value for the sub $300 i paid.

Because its boxed the edges are soft, which is not a problem for sleeping but you dont have the hard corners to sit on. You may want to go bigger size for that (and visitors).

Wud def buy again. Its firm-ish and lasted well with my 95kg frame

    • ALDI mattress is in the same boat, though never thought anything of it; was never an issue for me. Unfortunately can't go bigger, bedroom too small (like 2.6 x 3m). Would be nice to go Queen-size though.

  • I find zzz to be too soft even with their firmest mattress.

  • Single bed? Sorry to hear

      This is the way.

  • My Zzz arrived in March 2019 and was replaced with a Sleeping Duck in Jan 2023.

The Zzz (medium firm) had significant body impressions in both sides and probably should have been replaced a year earlier, so for me only really lasted 3 years. But I also only paid $215.20 for it so can't really complain.

    • Nice Flex with the Sleeping Duck.

    • Sleeping Duck good? Much price difference between Zzz and Duck ?

      • +1

Sleeping duck is about $1.5k (queen size) but comes with a lot more adjustment options. They send you foam inserts so that you just adjust the firmness

    Ikea.
Plenty of shops will persuade suckers that an expensive mattress is the magical solution to their sleep problems or bad back. But for thousands of years, people slept soundly where-ever they could. How firm should it be? That is cultural, from rock-hard in China to hammocks in Central America. Get what you prefer.
