New Smart Blinds from IKEA

With winter coming, you might be interested to know that Ikea have recently added to their range of smart blinds.
The new blinds are cellular/honeycomb blinds, whereas they previously only stocked smart roller blinds.

PRAKTLYSING

"Old" range
FYRTUR

KADRILJ
Roller blind, smart wireless/battery-operated grey

There are probably many other options (e.g. https://www.diyblinds.com.au/motorised-blinds - mentioned here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/731413) but I like cellular blinds because of their insulating properties. For those situations where the widths are a bit too long, there are a few YouTube videos showing you how to shorten the blinds.

I'm quite happy with the TREDANSEN ones I bought, which I've linked to Apple Homekit via the DIRIGERA Hub and the IKEA Home smart app (not "IKEA Home smart 1").

The cheapest way to buy these is as follows:
1) Buy Ikea gift cards from Shopback (3% off) [or Cashrewards (2% off)], ideally when there is a Shopback App gift card promotion (4-6% off) at least 48 hours (activation period) before heading into the shop. https://www.shopback.com.au/product/search/ikea
To be sure your gift cards have been activated, you can check here: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/customer-service/ikea-gift-cards-…
2) Go to Ikea during an IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network "Spend and Save" $25/$50/$100 Promotion Period. So far, there have been ones in Jan/Feb and April.
3) Stack the above two discounts with a $10 (or $15) Quarterly Reward or a $10 Birthday reward. Pay for each item separately as necessary to make the most of the reward discounts you have available.

For those who purchase this, you might like to know that the battery takes 5 hours to fully charge (out of the box) using the included 5W charger.

  • Ooooh they look nice. Like the fact that the blinds go right to the edge compared to the roller blinds which have a small gap on either end.

Thanks for the heads up. We have a lot of windows wider than 1.4m so it's a shame the blinds aren't available in wider sizes.

    • I've read the same thing on YouTube video comments.
What I've done is put some of mine side-by-side, the frames almost touching each other. From a privacy POV it's essentially one blind.
You can also pair/group them together in the Apple Home app and they look cool going up and down synchronously.

Wait until Russian hackers get a hold of these…

  • If you already have horizontal or mini blinds, you could always use SwitchBit Blind Tilt

  • Wake me up when they have automated curtains 👋.

I did install 3 automated roller blinds from blindsonline to my living areas and they were really affordable and good.

  • I saved a bucketload over these by going to Spotlight and buying Zemismart motors.
