I Want to Remove iCloud from My Apple Devices as I Am Paying a Monthly Fee for Having More than 50MB

Is it a simple task to remove iCloud from my Apple devices - iPhone 12 Pro, iPad & my Mac OS laptop? I am a bit afraid to try without some help in case I make a mistake & loose heaps of photos & data. Any help much appreciated.

You should keep the iCloud on your devices. If you're paying for 50GB storage that you don't need just cancel the subscription. It's worth paying for storage imo, backing up all your photos and app data. If you lose your iPhone then you can restore from the iCloud backup. But if you backup your photos somewhere else and selectively backup your app data you can backup your phone with the 5GB limit.

  • @kittykat78 No need to disable iCloud altogether. It's usually either photos or iMessage taking most of the storage.

Go to https://www.icloud.com/storage/ to see what's taking up space, then from your settings app (iPhone/iPad/Mac), disable iCloud backup for that particular thing.

    eg. disable photos: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT210702

If it's messages that's taking up space, recommend changing message retention from "forever" to "30 Days" or "1 year". You can do this in (iPhone) settings > Messages > Message History
