I've tried washing narrow bottles like this in dishwasher but it seems to never get clean, do some dishwashers have special nozzle things to mount bottles on or something?

do some dishwashers have special nozzle things to mount bottles on or something?

      No

      • +1

I can't even get magic bullet style blender jug clean in dishwasher.

        • +1

Check the sprayer arm… Sometimes food scraps get stuck into the holes from which the water comes out

    • +2

Not that I'm aware of, but I find just hand washing with a bottle brush for those specific bottles, that a dishwasher is ineffective for, to be quite easy if you able to do so.

I use a bottle brush similar to this:

    • +2

Use oxo bottle brush 3 in 1

      • This set? My wife thought I was crazy when I bought it but she loves it now. The long brush is really good for water bottles. While it's discounted now, it has been a lot cheaper in the past.

        • Yeah I got mine for $16. No regrets. Use it all the time.

    • Put some water, detergent, and sand in, lid on, and shake. I clean all sorts things like my car windscreen washer fluid bottle and glass Voss water bottles this way.

    • Get one of these. Can unscrew and clean easy.

      • That's not likely to fit the carbonator.

    • Yes. I believe they're specifically made to wash baby bottles.

Don't know if they sell models here though.

    • Works fine for me, you should watch the technology connections video on dishwashers, might help you out on optimizing your dishwasher

      • +1

He's a bit too cringe for a 30 minute video imo. I could read the instruction booklet that came with the dishwasher in less than 30 minutes.

        • Then don't complain when your bottle doesn't get washed well 🤷

          • @Boioioioi: And I just know if I watch it there will be five follow up videos 40 minutes each titled a variation of "I was wrong about dishwashers".

These are perfect to pour your own beer into and bring it to an NRL game instead of paying extraordinary prices in the Stadium

    • Do they ever ask to see inside the bottles?

    • +1

Isnt any bottle perfect? Maybe as long as its not see through plastic

    • +3

But it only holds two sips of beer.

      • +4

You can also sip 500ml in 1 go? I think I found my new best friend

        • me 3! although the 1litre German made sippy cup gets my vote.

    • +3

Can confirm you can try on other games too, not just NRL.

Can't do click and collect if store doesn't have stock. Most stores nearby don't have stock.

Good deal, was going to buy some at $34 each for my soda maker.

  • +4

    Would these work with sodastream?

    • +13

Just tested on mine, it'll screw in but the height of the bottle doesn't fit. I have the basic soda stream.

      • Thanks mate
I will pass on these then

      • +1

Looks like the main problem is the Sodastream tapers in at the bottom, whereas this doesn’t. Sodastream sell bottles the same height though, 29cm.

Tempted just to cut a hole in the plastic to fit one of these. Bit ghetto though.

        • +5

I'm going to try this with the Dremel.

  • Can anyone confirm if this fits in the bottle holder of a car?

    • +21

Where do you live? Leave your car unlocked tonight so I can check for you.

    • My car can only do soft drink can sizes, my work car can do a bit bigger. This bottle is slightly bigger than those, so most beverage holders probably won't unless you get one of those beverage holder adaptors.

  • Cheers. Got 2 for the gym

Get some for yourself as well.

So everybody knows (and may be obvious for some). These bottles are not insulated and because they're stainless, they're very effective at heat transfer - both ways. So if they're full of water that is under the dew point you will get a very "sweaty" bottle very quickly, with lots of puddles on your desk.

The upside is that if you don't have a water cooler and need to cool down water in the fridge before you gas it up, this will facilitate very quick temp drops.

I killed my last one by putting it in the freezer with the lid on, dumb move by me!

I prefer the plastic ones over this one. I just wish there was an option for an insulated bottle for a soda stream.

      Thanks McScotty McScientist

      These bottles are not insulated

If they were, putting them in the fridge would do nothing to chill the water.

I just wish there was an option for an insulated bottle for a soda stream.

      Chill and transfer?

      • Point 1: Yes, I am an edge case where I will use a water cooler and then consume the soda water immediately. Probably why they don't offer what I'm looking for.

Point 2: I find the carbonation of my soda stream doesn't stick around (hence the immediate consumption above). Thus transferring between bottles is likely to kill many sweet, delicious bubbles. I also have issues with storing carbonated liquids in bottles not rated for pressurised contents, I know it's not much, but stranger things have happened and I introduce stress raisers in my vac insulated bottle every day with dings and heat cycles. Not ideal.

    • Sounds like you overfilled to not allow room for it to expand.

      • Yes, I actually retired my stainless Philips bottle to "chilling water in the freezer to pour into my main, insulated water bottle" at work (exploiting the heat transfer comment above), as there isn't a water cooler in the office. Made the late Friday night mistake of not setting an hour timer, filling it to the top AND putting the lid on, came back on Monday to a seriously deformed bottle with a hole in it. :( Nobody to blame but myself.

    • I prefer the plastic ones over this one. I just wish there was an option for an insulated bottle for a soda stream.

https://sodastream.com.au/products/bottle-sleeve-pepsi-half-… would work. I'm going to get one the next time I order some syrups so I can leave it sitting on my desk.

Thanks freefall101! I like this, but man nothing beats the insulative effects of a vacuum. It would be SO nice to have cold soda water at the end of the day with proper pressure ratings and all. A man can dream!

  • +3

I use one of these on my Aarke and find it holds the carbonation pretty well. I'm not a fan of the idea of plastic leaching into water, especially when it is cold/has a lower PH like carbonated water. The only downside to these bottles is they are difficult to fill up to the level line as you have to look in through the top of the bottle. I would recommend a measuring jug for when filling them up to the right level. I just bought four.

  • Is it okay to use this as a normal bottle around the house or for the car?

    • +1

Yeah it's just a steel bottle which can withstand pressure for carbonation as well

      • Not insulated, though.

  • +1

    Bought 4. Thanks, OP.

  • +1

People buying this to use as a water bottle.. would the vessel spring water 750ml for $4.95 from woolworths be a cheaper option?

    • +1

      Aluminium vs stainless steel

      • Is Aluminium bad compared to Stainless Steel?

        • +1

No. Probably more prone to dents than anything.

  • +3

for anyone using this as a water bottle, the 'Fill to this level' indicator is at 1L, if you use the whole bottle, it fits 1.2L

    • a rule of thumb is not to overfill when freezing

  • Thanks, got a few

  • i have a double wall insulated bottle similar to these for the car it works well at keeping the water cool
    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/112915/dec…

    • Ah man, just a heads up, in my experience the cap is actually plastic so even though the sides are vac sealed, it still doesn’t keep liquids as warm as long as other bottles I’ve had in the past.

Not a huge deal breaker, and at $10.50 it’s worth it, but if you need a liquid to stay consistently warm, this ain’t it.

      • Works fine for me; I use that one too. Between the cap and whatever liquid you have in the bottle, there's air, which is not a bad insulator.

  • Find one in the other stock and hope it is worth the 12 min drive

  • Thank you, OP! I've had this sitting in my amazon cart for months hoping it would go on sale! Appreciate it.

  • Just noted that if you actually use these bottles with the Philips Soda machine, the fizz doesn't last as long with steel bottles compared to the plastic ones.

    • I'm using them with a SodaStream; no issues here (though the sparkling water doesn't last long in the fridge).
