Grocery Price Comparison Apps for ALDI

I've just been looking at the Google Play Store for a grocery price comparison app. Wishlist just does Coles and Woolworths. Frugl says it does Aldi as well as Coles and Woolies. I downloaded the Frugl app but could not get it to give prices for Aldi. I tried '12 eggs", for example, and got results for Coles and Woolies but nothing for Aldi. Does the Frugl app actually do Aldi prices?

I think Aldi prices can vary across the country. Someone was developing an app that automatically scans tags iirc. But it doesn't scan the e-ink tags used in SA, I think tracking Aldi's prices is too big a task.

Can you remember the name of the app?
The gov should make supermarkets publish the prices like they do with fuel.

      • I think it was more like a spreadsheet, but he came up with some way to use camera on your phone to automatically scan prices. Might have seen it on Reddit actually.

      • What a great idea!

      • First things first. The govt should stop fuel cartels gouging consumers, after that 'truth in advertising' and then standardised advertising regs, then fully fund , fully empower a proper fully toothed up ACCC and not the (profanity) operation it is now. This country is a haven for foreign raiders, and the govts duty of care is to protect us as consumers and citizens, not enable the serial scamming we face every time we spend on anything.Especially essentials

It needs to be a crowdsourcing thing.

  • Does the Aldi app display their prices?

  • Always wondered why Aldi never upped their digital and marketing presence; surely if they had a website even close to Woolworths and a gimmicky loyalty program their revenue would skyrocket in Australia. I guess they just want to be consistent with their global brand?

People who value savings over time shop at Aldi. The primary reason for loyalty schemes is to link demographic data with purchases. People don't really need an incentive like a loyalty scheme to shop at Aldi and unless the scheme brings in additional revenue the costs of it will need to be passed on with higher product prices. I imagine member points offers might drive some business but its probably more about Coles and Woolworths stealing business from each other and IGA or selling high margin items. FWIW, IGA don't have a loyalty scheme either and dropped Franklin's scheme when they were acquired. I'm glad Aldi don't have a loyalty scheme; to my tastes their selling of branded products already makes them too much like the others. I could tolerate it when they were parallel imports but that doesn't seem to be the case these days. Unlike the other supermarkets those branded products never go on special which is a pity as they sometimes work out to be cheaper than the generics. It really peeves me when I pay more by buying something at Alldi. I used to they might be forced to sell some branded product by some of the manufacturers of generics but I doubt any of the Aldi cereals are manufactured by Kellogg's.

I'm a bit surprised they don't offer online shopping but they must have their reasons. One unique Aldi gimmick is their "special buys". Must try their free 60 day product rental again some day!
