Car Hire Filled Wrong Fuel and How to Claim with Insurance

We were 4 couples who travelled overseas and we had hired 2 cars from the car rental company. Unfortunately, on the last day one of us filled the wrong fuel in the car and the car hire company has found out about it and has charged us the excess.
Out of the four couples, one individual's travel insurance policy provides the most coverage for the rental car damage. However, this individual's name is not listed on the rental car agreement as the car hire company only allowed one name to be registered.

The car hire was paid through AMEX platinum card. Just putting this in there if it helps.

Question here is how do we claim under that individual name? Can we get the car hire company to amend the booking?

Any help would be much appreciated.

      Was disappointed :(

  • title should be “how do i commit insurance fraud?”

    • This!!

  • my wife and i drove around europe 9 years ago. we had a diesel peugeot. stopped at a road house in southern france (their road house restaurants are fantastic - they sell wine on tap) . the bowsers didn't have clear names for diesel - specifically no "diesel" sign - they were colour coded - and numbers for the variety of petrol 91, 95 etc.. maybe it was a southern france thing.

my wife went in to the cashier and asked which was diesel.

note: we had lived in Japan for many years prior.

my wife came back and said "bowser number 3"

i went over and locked at bowser 3 and it was the same as the other bowsers.

I asked my wife "what did the person say ?"

my wife said " the lady said 'san' "

i looked at my wife and realised that she had assumed that the french cashier had spoken to her "white aussie chick" in Japanese

I looked at the bowser and there was a picture of the "sun" for the diesel

    still makes me laugh.
