I like this one Citizen Eco Drive BL850-86H Perpetual Calendar. How good of a value is it? Historical low? Looks nice 👍👍

    • I'm wondering the same thing. There's no video reviews of it on YouTube (just this video of time-setting instructions for the blue dial variant), no watch blog/forum reviews I could find elsewhere and almost no images of it in Google search results that are non-stock/promotional images which actually show the watch in real-world lighting conditions.

Seems like it's either a very new model or a very obscure one.

Same goes for the CB5918-02L; no reviews out there for that model but at least there's a lot more photos of that watch on people's wrists and in realistic lighting conditions.

I think all of these are great value for their respective specs and possibly the lowest prices. Except the last one, it's nice and I dig the sunburst dial and bracelet despite having no micro-adjustments. I think it's a very nice and handsome looking watch. But I picked the Citizen Eco Drive Promaster CB5918-02L Chrono, which has better specs, but is on a shitty leather strap. I sold my Navihawk and miss it, and this one is like a more elegent version.

The BL850-86H Perpetual Cal has a nice satin finish and is incredible value, but I remember a clearance sale on Citizen's ebay store a few years ago and a similar model was going for about $170ish. Which I bought and then sold. The inner ring on this has cut-outs for the top 2 subdials, but not the bottom which bothers me because it makes the dial look unbalanced and wobbly, and I'll notice it every time I look at it. And also the months on the outer ring. But that's just me being nitpicky.

I got the stealth black one because it's a simple grab and go watch that's a nice size at 40mm and relatively thin.

My issue with watches like the BL850-86H is that so many entry-level, stainless steel chronographs like this tend to look vasty different in-person than they do in promotional glamour shots.

For example, have a look the blue dial version of that model. The dial looks rather cheapy and nasty for a watch at that price point with a bland, matte plastic finish. It's not helped by the fact that there's virtually no videos or decent photos of the black dial BL850-86H anywhere online either, so you can't get a good idea as to how that watch will look in real life or different lighting conditions.

I've had similar issues with Seikos, Citizens and Casio Edifice models in the past that looked amazing in promotional photos but in-person just looked disappointing and underwhelming.

I guess you'd have to check out this model in-store to be sure.

I've had similar experiences. The most recent one was this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/748980 the watch depot link is dead now but the watch looked great, especially the dial. When I received it, it felt cheap and the dial was not that great. I rarely look for reviews or videos; I roll the dice, and the majority of my purchases have met expectations. Once in a while I'll just take the L and sell it. Most times I lose, but sometimes I make money off watches I don't like.

But at the same time, some watches actually look better in person.

I was just having a lend. Good buying 👍

I had to look that up. Never heard of that phrase, but thanks for the loan.

I like the AW1770-53L bracelet, but i have a similar one on one of my Sinns and it's a bit annoying with no micro adjustments.

Wow that Black Stainless Steel watch is so nice

    • It's a very clean and simple looking watch with interesting design elements on the dial.

Some interesting Speedmaster clones out there these days….

    • Isn't the Speedy just a Breitling—take your pick, say Chronomat—clone?

      • Waiting for a Breitling slide rule watch deal. (maybe Citizen CB5000)

  • -1

The Breitling Slide rule is too busy….like many Breitlings actually…YMMV.

  • Just a head's up, don't expect "Radio Controlled" to function regularly anywhere south of Brisbane. I almost got daily updates there with a Casio Multi-band 6 watch. At 200km south of Brisbane, I got updates very rarely. I never got updates in Sydney or Canberra.

Results at other longitudes could vary.
