Looking for Toilet Recommendations

Our current toilet is on the way out and we’re sick of repairing the leaks that keep happening so we’re going to replace it. I haven’t had much luck finding recommended replacements though. Mostly posts whinging that modern toilets aren’t very good at being toilets.

I’m not looking for anything fancy but happy to spend a bit of money on something good. Budget is around $1000. I want something that flushes well (can handle at least 8.6 courics) and is easy to keep clean.

OzBargain has its favourite computer monitor (Dell S2721DGF), its favourite TV (LG C3) and its favourite clothes dryer (Esatto EHPD7), is there a favourite toilet?

Toilet recommendations don't have the same 'gaming' minimum criteria, i suspect OzB would just cheap out in this regards.

My taste however is more expensive at $1400ea which should reduce to $1k with gift cards etc. I don't skim on devices in my home.

    • That's a gorgeous shitter, ngl!

I'd also add in a TOTO bidet seat with controls to make it a throne rivaling that of Odin himself.

I'm a bit puzzled by this diagnosis. Where's it leaking from? Unless there's a crack in the ceramics, I'm pretty sure it can be repaired. You can replace all the internals for a flush pretty cheap and it should as good as new after that.

Might be able to find it cheaper (not by much). Note this is the bottom inlet and you'll need to speak with a plumber (or check once you've removed your loo if you can't see) what you need.

You also need to check water tap placement and measure the distance of any pre-existing mound and pipe work.

However, I've put this into several homes and it's the easiest thing to clean and maintain.

You might want to check out this thread.

Specifically, this user's post, who shall hence force be known as the Turd Czar, who modified his toilet by removing the cistern and connecting it via the mains water for maximum pressure with a solenoid shut-off value, in case the flush button became stuck.

Truly a first-class sh*tter that will probably never require the use of a toilet brush.

  • Unless you spend a lot of time admiring your bathroom, I've never really understood expensive toilets. Most of the time you arent even looking at them when you use them (or only for a minute or so), they tend to be hidden in a corner. Sure some more expensive ones look nicer but you wont notice after a few months vs something like the one Benoffie linked.

Unless you get one with a bidet function. https://www.bunnings.com.au/concerto-ultra-bidet-toilet-suit…

It's not for the styling that people are willing to pay a premium for a good toilet; it's the fact that the toilet bowls in modern cheap toilets literally become caked in excrement due to their sh*tty (pun intended) design and incredibly poor flush capacity, require far more manual cleaning than older, larger flush capacity toilets and develop issues like broken valves, leaks and constant clogging far more easily.

      • The expensive ones are the ones with weird bowl designs and fancy but smaller cisterns. Maybe they have better glazing but who knows. You can’t use old toilets to justify buying an expensive toilet, they are all different. Cheaper toilets are more likely to be older design

  • The best toilet is usually the one you can find!

Make sure the hole is big enough to fit adult number twos. Some new toilets seem to want to save water or something so the actual bottom part where the water sits is tiny. Any normal size number two blocks it. No amount of flushing fixes the problem. I think it is both a width and more importantly the height of the bend.

    • Sounds like a you problem

Nah he's right. Modern toilet design is absolutely retarded and takes nothing about basic physics, geometry and usage into consideration. It's like they're all designed for constipated children who subsist on a diet of porridge and only sh*t once or twice a week at the most.

        • I was joking. Just trying to make them self conscious about their abnormally giant turds.

  • After buying 3 for a renovation, my advice is:
    1. Wall facing. Means no area behind that needs to be cleaned
    2. One with a removable seat. Makes cleaning a lot easier
    3. Shop at E&S Trading. They have a good range of quality products that will fit under your budget. Plus there staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.
