Bicycle Network or Bicycle NSW?

I'm looking to join a bike club and I'm stuck between two options: Bicycle Network and Bicycle NSW. I'm hoping some of you can provide some insight into which club would be the better fit for me.

I'm an avid cyclist and I love to ride both on and off-road. I also like to participate in charity rides and events. I live in New South Wales, but I don't mind traveling for events and rides.

I've looked into both clubs and they both seem to offer similar benefits, such as access to events, insurance, and advocacy. However, I'm not sure which club has a stronger community or more opportunities for members to connect and ride together.

If anyone has any experience with either club, I would love to hear your thoughts. Which club do you think would be the better fit for someone like me? Are there any specific benefits or drawbacks to each club that I should consider?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I don’t know much about bicycle nsw, but bicycle network are aus wide, which means if you’re interstate and there’s an event, you can be involved, and they do frequent counts of cycling paths which helps with their advocacy work.

    • Pensioners don't pay rego are you suggesting they shouldn't drive a car?

Don't get me started, what about all those blasted pedestrians and their free use of the footpath. I could be undertaking all the banked up traffic if it wasn't for them.

Pedestrians should have license plates on their ass!

if we assume rego is proportional to the wear and tear a user imparts on the road and the road surrounding, paying $0 is pretty close to the right price compared to cars and trucks costs.
Adjust your frame of reference and you'll likely be less angry :)

(I dont even ride a bike, I'm too lazy for that, and have you see how bad most drivers are…. but I also dont rage at those who choose to)

I already pay rego for 3 vehicles. When I’m not using them I’m on a bike causing no damage to roads and also reducing congestion by not being in a car.

  • Bicycle NSW is going to be far more NSW focused. Bicycle Network is far more tailored towards VIC, TAS and SA.

  • Bicycle NSW offers discounts on certain Charity event entries - such as Bobbin head.

Join your local club if you want to meet like-minded people and participate in group rides.

Bicycle Network is really just advocacy, bike insurance, minor discounts for their events, and you can participate in bike counts (which gives you the option of a free membership).

From my understanding, Bicycle Network is quite heavily focused on VIC, so you might not benefit much from them in NSW (although they are making efforts to expand AUS-wide).
