APS to APS Smooth Transfer Question

Hi Everyone.

Just have a question for my Friend.

Is anyone here in HR with APS Jobs tell me about probation, please?

My friend is moving from one APS to another while he is on probation (more than 2 months completed). He got a good offer from another APS agency which he doesn't want to decline.

He emailed the person who interviewed him and sent the offer letter but he got no reply yet. Today is his last day to accept the offer. Does anyone have any experience with that?

He just wants to know whether his Probation will be transferred over to another APS employer under Sec 26 or if it will start over again.

Also, he doesn't know whether one week of notice is enough with his current employer as the start date with the new role is 01/05/23. He checked his offer letter from his current employer but there is no information.

Thank you

Why not email the HR and ask?

  • That person said he will follow up with HR. No response he received by last Friday. Todays is last day to accept the offer

Just accept it mate employers aren't family

I'm not from HR, but I would doubt probation would carry over another department, as the duties are probably totally different.

  • Just accept the offer, if for some reason the transfer cant happen then it will be reversed

Btw, he is still employed by the Commonwealth. Moving between departments isnt changing employers, its like moving from accounts to sales. Same company but there might be different conditions or pay or whatever. s22(6) says that probation can only be required at the time of engagement into the APS; so the new agency can continue the probation until the end of the original period if it wants. Or, in fact, it can decide it doesnt require probation and end it.
