Citibank Plus Visa Card and PayPal

Just got a Citibank plus visa card and tried to add it to paypal, then I got an error message saying the cards issuer does not allow the card to be added to PayPal. Has anyone else had this issue with a Citibank card on PayPal?

  • every merchant has a 'merchant type' code. Citibank ban more merchants than other banks - I know I wasn't able to fund an online betting account for that reason. If you call Citi they should be able to tell you why.

  • I got Citibank Visa CC and I am able to pay by Paypal using it.Probably your problem that it is debit ( not credit ) card. Better to call Citibank to be sure.

    • Why add a Visa debit when it's really a straight direct debit from your bank account?

      • To get added buyer protection. Paypal is 45 days where as debit/credit cards are usually 90 days. Direct debit does not have this protection.

  • From what I've found Citibank debits cards don't work with Paypal, but since it's a debit card you might as well just link it directly to your usual bank account anyway, same same

  • Yer I might try just linking it to the bank account, what I wanted to try and do was buy something from o/s and change the primary currency on my PayPal account into the currency of the country to avoid the PayPal conversion and just use the conversion rate on my Citibank card. Possible?
