ShopBack and Cashrewards Extensions Slowing down Browser

I've been battling slow Chrome performance for a very long time. Computer just felt so slow and sluggish browsing - to the point where I was contemplating reinstalling windows.

Today I realised that these extensions were the culprits. After disabling Shopback and Cashrewards extensions, the browser is now operating at a good speed.

I'm guessing the extensions check each page that is loaded and slow everything right down to a crawl.

Has anyone else found this?

You could try the OzBargain Chrome extension which includes all the cashback rates, by clicking the extension when you visit the retailer website. It won't pop up when you visit the site, but it is less intrusive.

    • Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out

  • Yes, turn them off, they are annoying.

  • Chrome is already a massive memory and CPU usage hog without any extensions so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
