Buying Neodymium Magnet Buttons from AliExpress

Hi all,

I want to buy neodymium button magnet from AliExpress. I am wondering if it is legal to send that to Australia?

I vaguely recall that buying magnet from overseas could be a problem. Quick google I saw this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium_magnet_toys#Australi….

I would appreciate any info around this. Thank you.

    • Thanks Richard. So I do recall correctly :-) Lucky I checked here.

are small enough to fit into the small parts cylinder used in the mandatory standard for toys for children up to and including 36 months of age

I wish they just mention the max dimension allowed.

have a magnetic flux of greater than 50

Is 50 high? Or any button magnet most likely is higher than 50?

So long as it is not marketed as a toy. We use a huge range of neodymium magnets at work for various functions, like magnetic sump plugs.

There are places in Australia that will sell you these magnets in bulk if you require them for a job. If you need them as a toy or just something to play with, you might have a hard time.

Get onto AMF and see if they have what you are looking for.

I purchased lots of neodymium magnets from overseas sellers on ebay without issue.

    I'd just order them.

    Get from harddrives

  • Are the rare earth magnets at Jaycar the same or close enough?

  • Have never received any of the assorted neodymium magnets that I've bought from AliExpress. Each package reaches Australia and then disappears. Only one package was delivered and it had been torn open by a person and the magnets removed.

Is there a secret to ensuring these magnets arrive?

    • Try ebay instead. never lost magnets off ebay

      • never lost magnets off ebay

Is it because of their high Fees?

        Sorry I'll let myself out.

If you don't need a large quantity or price isn't a concern, you can buy neodymium magnets from Bunnings.

  • Ordered and received from ebay a couple of times

  • What do these taste like

  • Thank you all for your responses.

i am wondering if eBay is fine because the item is sent from Australia, instead of from overseas.

Bunning will be an option too. Thanks.
