Providoor Gift Voucher ($150) Unused and Now They Have Gone Bust!

Hi all, we got a gift voucher a year ago from a close friend to use for Providoor. It was for the our arrival of a baby and we didn’t want to use it till a special occasion.

We found out today Providoor has gone bust. I wonder what can be done regarding our voucher :( it’s such a waste and we were looking forward to using it given we can’t afford to eat fancy meals whilst I’m on unpaid maternity leave.

    ACCC's guidance: https://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-and-promotions/…

There's a section on things to do if you owed money when a company becomes insolvent here: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/protecting-yourself/when-a…

    Relevant points:-

If the company operating the business becomes insolvent, the consumer becomes an ‘unsecured creditor’ of the company.

Unsecured creditors are only repaid after secured creditors, such as the business’s bank and major suppliers, are repaid and after priority unsecured creditors, such as employees are repaid. This means consumers may only get some of their money back or nothing at all.

So most likely nothing to be done unless a creditor is appointed and you register with them as owed money then hope everyone in priority list in front of you is paid out and you get your turn.

      *unless an administrator is appointed?

      • liquidator?

      • Yep, mistype. Thanks.

Their website has now been updated with the liquidator information and a gift card enquiry contact email. Edit: got an email bounce-back lol

That’s rough - sorry to hear it

I also think it was pretty poor behaviour of them to send out email marketing as recently as the 25th (3 days ago) advertising pre-paid Mother’s Day promotions. Id be super annoyed

Inform your friends that the gift was unused and maybe they can claim a cash back in case they paid via credit card. They may have to be persistent with their bank.

If successful they can give you a new credit card.

There is no cost to try :)

chargeback period is 180 days, OP said a year ago :(

  • I had an awful experience with them. Not surprised they went bust with that attitude.

    Gift vouchers suck.

Only easy ones like uber eats or Amazon.

    Or just cash.

It's more annoying trying to use a gift voucher.

…. we got a gift voucher a year ago from a close friend to use for Providoor. It was for the our arrival of a baby and we didn’t want to use it till a special occasion.

Huh? You had the gift voucher for a whole year & you had no special occasions in that time?

Yeah well with providoor it’s mostly food you have to cook and it’s usually multiple courses..not sure if you have been involved with rearing a baby but the first year has been rough for us. The voucher is valid for 3 years so we thought we would wait.

      • It can be very rough I have a 9mth old, but still manage a night on the rare occassion, don't you have a MIL that could look after the little one for a couple hours at night ? You guys need some time together every now and then !

  • I was also gifted a $200 last Christmas and should expire 2025. 🤦‍♂️

If only Shane owned a restaurant or two that we could redeem our now worthless gift vouchers at…

  • Oh man, that is annoying.

A quick reminder for everyone that gift cards are for near immediate use and make terrible gifts.

I was thinking of ordering from Providoor for mother's day, glad I was busy this week and forgot.

  • Holding onto any gift card for future use is always a risk. Bad luck.

  • Had a $300 voucher :(

  • According to some reports, the business got screwed. They had a few million in an account in escrow and the investor refused to release it and they wouldn't have gone bust. Broadsheet had a deeper write-up and was an owner.

  • Same happened to all the people who had gift cards when WOW Sight and Sound went bust. There's nothing you can do. If you get a gift card use it straight away

  • I also have a gift card voucher worth $150 with Providoor which is just wasted I guess. Not sure any point of emailing the liquidators
