Amaysim VS Woolworths Mobile

Hey guys, I was looking for a new pre-paid mobile.
I've found amaysim and woolworths to be the best deals. So now I need an opinion on which is better. I can either pay $19.90 a month on amaysim and get 500mb of data or $30 for 45 days on woolworths and get 5gb of data. Now I know woolworths charge crazy increments so I was wondering if they pretty much work out to be the same.

Any knowledge would be helpful.

Thanks

  • I honestly don't think the Amaysim mid-level offering is good value. But I'm with them because I'm a frugal user who can get by with the minimum offering on AYG and their per minute rates are far better than VF's.

But as to your question, the rounding is per session, not per piece of data fetched. If you move around a lot and drop reception often, e.g. train tunnels, it might make a difference, but in practice, unless you are the kind of person to watch videos, etc. you will not clock up 500MB even with the phone on all the time. I have tried both providers.

Tip: Turn off automatic update on your apps, and only update when you are at a Wifi hotspot. One FB app update for example will eat up several MB.

  • +1

I'll take 5gb over 500 mb. U use data fairly quickly when surfing, and it's just so much more freedom, not having to worry about going over ur data limit. Also, I find increments used within a few mins apart is charged into one lump anyway.

  • I've been on Woolies since last year and have never run out of the 5GB data before running out of calling credits. I use data quite extensively for emails, browsing, listening to Stitcher and Spotify while at work, and social networking. I think the Woolies deal is good value and my only complaint is that they don't allow tethering/personal hotspot on iPhone (but I believe that's something passed down through Optus, who don't allow iPhone tethering on any pre-paid plans.

  • How about liveconnected? I know it cost 20 for the sim but if you stay with them for a while, say 12 months the per month cost isn't bad. My family is on an old $5 plan with them and they've never gone above the cap and I'm about to go on their medium which is great value at 12/mth. $500 worth of calls, 1.5gb data, very little worry of going over the cap.

  • Hey mate do you have any complaints about liveconnected? How's their service?

    • my dad is on live connected, and i manage his account online. My only complaint is because everything is online, you would expect a decent web(site) interface. But i've found its seriously lacking in usability compared to say TPG(whom i'm with). but hey, if you get a big enough cap and never have to worry about checking ur balance etc LC is great.

  • No issues at all with LiveConnected, apart from possibly that all interactions are online (no phone support), if that would concern you.
They use the Optus network. For the price their deals can't be beat.
