[PC, Steam] Return to Monkey Island $25.16 @ Steam

550

Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games.

Was $35.95 so at $25.16 about the cheapest I've seen it on steam.

I know it’s contentious with fans of the OG one.
But I enjoy the new art style…
I do remember playing the original back in dos, but it’s still a monkey island game.

Hell, I’d be happy if they updated Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis as another Lucas arts classic.

Fate of Atlantis is one of my favourite games of all times (I’ve got it on my Nintendo DS although I wish I could play it on the switch or something).

There was a group called ‘Amberfish arts’ who were made up of fans that tried to create a fanmade version, this was about 25 years ago though and i don’t think it got anywhere (though the sample artwork they provided looked quite good at the time).

FYI (it’s a very old website).

      • Given it’s a SCUMM game, playing it on a modern pc or even android/iOS should be straight forward as getting the SCUMM interpreter?

        • Ah IOS? I didn’t realise I could play it on my iPhone! If so, I would be playing it straight away. The nolstalgia…

The art style dummyspit was the most 'gamer' thing possible. The supposed fans have been wetly sobbing for Ron to make 'the game he wished he got to make' for like a decade. And then he does, with the art style he wanted, and everyones like 'Oh not like that. We wanted you to make the game weeee wanted'. Were I him I'd have cancelled it and deleted the files.

      • Not sure what you're trying to say. He made the game for himself? BS, it was to make money. He took a chance with the art style, gamers didn't like it and it was too late to change it.

"I'd have cancelled it and deleted the files". Do you live in some make believe world where the concept of money doesn't exist?

He created the series, he wanted to continue it?

The majority of gamers (myself included) couldn't care about the art style.

There's always a toxic minority that whinge about everything, and in the case of the game's art style, it was unjustified. They should have been glad they were even getting another monkey island game

    Art style is fine
Not as hard as the older games
    Ending is dumb

  • Is this game any good?

A great little nostalgia trip but feels too short as a stand alone game and the puzzles are not challenging enough - this is reflected in the price I suppose.

It carries all of the feel of the series and is a great intro for this style of game for newer gamers. The Art style is good? What do people want - surely not an exact copy of the basic graphics from the original….well maybe the beautifully rendered art scenes of close ups etc…they were cool.

A must have for fans of the series. Outside of that worth a go at $25.
