Fan Speed Running 100% on First Start up Every Day

Hi All,

I have been having a really weird issue last 2 months. The first start up of the day has all my fan speeds running at 100%.
I have to shut down the PC, wait a minute and start it up again for the fans to run normally and utilise the fan curves per BIOS.

I have already updated the BIOS, reviewed all fan curves and also tried to run Fancontrol as per J2C video but the issue is still in place (it is only an issue on first start up, if I shut down and start again it all works normally again).

  1. I have done power cycle few times.
  2. I have updated BIOS and updated / reviewed fan curves - all settings fine and work on second start up for the day after a minute of being shut down from first boot.
  3. I have tried using Fancontrol - all settings fine and work on second start up for the day.
  4. I do not have GPU temperature issues - even when gaming for a few hours the GPU never goes above 55 degrees (3060 ti Auros Elite)
  5. I do not have CPU temperature issues - even when gaming, temperature never goes above 50 degrees (11400 - running AIO)

Really can't figure it out using Dr Google either, I know there are a lot of people that know a lot about PC's here so just looking for some help.

I am still troubleshooting with the PC maker but seeing if anything else has experience something like this before (I have owned the PC for 18 months or so, only started 2 months ago).

EDIT* - MOBO is Gigabyte B560M DS3H AC

Thanks in advance.

  • Mine does this too - it's very annoying haha
I'm just waiting to buy a new motherboard and see if it fixes it

    • What MOBO you got mate?

      • Gigabyte Aorus Pro (Z390 chipset)
It's rubbish - much like every other Gigabyte product I've owned to be honest 😂

        • There's your problem, should have opted for Terabyte.

Hey, you could try replacing the button battery on the motherboard to see if it fixes the issue. Just a suggestion though, no guarantees.

Hey not yet, is this the CMOS battery? I have been thinking about that but haven't got to it yet.

      • That’s the one! Might be failing & losing settings.

      • CR2032 battery

  • Are you adjusting your curves in the software or the bios?

I have a B450M DS3H V2 and the fan control stuff is in the bios from memory.

    • Hey mate, I have done it within the BIOS, but even with / without software installed (tested that) the same thing happens. It seems that first boot for the day has the fans running at 100% but then the second foot is fine lol. Very weird.

      • I get 2 seconds of 100%, then it stops.

My bet is there is conflicting info (software/hardware), i'd be uninstalling the software, and doing a full reset of the bios. Possibly rolling back the bios too.

Edit: CMOS battery first, low hanging fruit

        • It wont be software, as it happens before entering Windows.
I am assuming the fans stay at 100%, even when entering BIOS on first boot.
CMOS battery is also my first thoughts.

          • @Malik Nasser: Thanks!, will see what the builder says for next steps and suggest that step to see if that could be the issue (CMOS). Won't do anything without their consent since warranty is still in tact till Sep.

  • I have this to default on 100% for a few seconds using AquaSuite, but then goes back to the fan curves I’ve built.

Wonder if you have multiple conflicting profiles and it is defaulting to 100% as a precaution.

  • Mine all fire up at (assumed) 100% until the bios has run it's setup. Only a few seconds and then settles down to a normalish fan speed waiting for the OS to take over.

A few seconds… how long does yours run at 100% ?

    • Forever mate, This is how it used to run for me too until about 2 months ago (with no change at all - only started to test software after this issue started). So the same thing that you are describing used to be the case for me too. Cheers. I only used software that was provided by the PC manufacturer after they remotely accessed computer to set the software up - never installed it myself, had only done fan curves myself in BIOS.

      • Have you turned remote access back off?

        • Yup!

Of course you have already cleaned the fan and air vents etc.Looks like new in there

    • Yeah clean haha

  • Which fan? CPU fan? GPU fans? Case fan? All fans? Only fans?

  • have u tired cleaning the internal fans and mother board? dust doess build up overtime so try that
mine use to do that similar with fan running high but i would just get a blank screen on start up.
opened up the case and i pushed the button which was flashing red and hold for about 6 secs and rebooted and works fine now

  • check that the fans are plugged into the right connectors. eg: cpu fan is connected to cpu fan plug and not system case fan slot

  • Have you tried leaving it on?

  • All my PCs do this - it's the BIOS forcing cleaning of the heatsinks etc.

    • They're not meant to stay at 100% for hours though. Only upon first boot for a short time

      • Correct - stays on for a few seconds then boots.

        • Yeah - OPs issue (and mine) is that it never slows back down again, it just stays at 100% until you manually reboot the computer

  • Make sure any empty fan headers are disabled in BIOS.
