Cheaper on ebay for about $284.08 shipped.

Personally I prefer the GW7900B for about $137.34 as I fish. The moon chart and tide graph are really handy.

come on, we just love to support our local business ;-)

      • +2

Huh? None of the three watches are from a local business, I've no idea what you're referring to.

        • Zero,I fish as well. What made you choose the GW7900B over the G9100? I was about to buy the G9100 but if the GW7900B is better I'll get that. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Casio-Men-G-SHOCK-Gulfman-Sport-W…

          *ps, how do you hyperlink?

Thanks for the link, made it easier getting the specs. Mine has all the G9100 specs plus:
Mine is solar powered, it has a massive run time per charge (6 months I think) and having a lifetime battery on top of that is a huge thing in my books for a watch like this. Plus it never needs to be opened.
When you bring the watch up to read the time, you can have it automatically illuminate for a few seconds if you want. So handy when I'm doing something at the time. See what I did there? Yeah ya did! ;)
It also has "atomic" automatic time setting, the time sets itself from the tower in Japan but that really only works when I'm north of Newcastle anyway. Canberra is a little to far from the tower.
Mine has an extra alarm and also an extra button to help make using the watch a little easier, the light is now the "G" at the bottom an "split/reset" at top right.
I'm not sure if yours has sleep mode. My moon chart is a little easier to see. Just don't forget to set it to southern hemisphere.
Other than that, I'd say it's just aesthetics.
Not massive differences but it was the maintenance free I was after.
It looks badass too, I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it looked cool.

I had a G-shock once. The watch strap lasted 4 years, and cost $70 to replace (part of the bezel). Was hard to get done, because 4 years after purchase they already had trouble getting parts.

  • poo coloured watches, fantastic.

      Great for new parents! :p

      • Dude, where are your hands going, that your wrist will be covered in poo…

        • +2

Your wrist doesn't have to go anywhere, anyone with a baby knows that sometimes the poo comes to you! ;)

I have a Casio Pro-Trek with Compass, Altimeter, Thermometer which I've owned for over 10 years.
It is similar to the G-Shock.

It has been reliable and never malfunctioned. But the comment I would make is that the maintenance costs have esacalated over the years to the point of being unaffordable compared to the value of the watch.

The Pro-Trek has a thick, heavy-duty plastic wrist band, but even though this appears very strong, it quite suddenly perishes and splits about every 3 years (whether worn or not) and needs to be replaced by the Casio agent, Shriro of Lane Cove West NSW.

Likewise the battery needs replacing and also the rubber seals for waterproofing need checking; the battery also fails about every 3 years. Normal watch repair places will not touch these watches; they warn that the agent has to do it because the watch has so many entry points for dust and water that the seals need checking and are special, even if the battery itself is not.

Shriro have always done a good job but their costs of doing this work have escalated over the years. I keep records. A year ago, replacing the strap plus battery cost $75. I said to myself that this would be the last time, even though the watch works perfectly.

I would take the total cost of ownership into account with any watch I bought in future, as these costs are getting ridiculous and I don't see how to avoid them.

The watch in this deal has one big advantage if it is solar-power and never needs to be opened. All you have to worry about is replacing the strap. If there is an alternative source of compatible straps for Casios I'd like to know about it.

Incidentally I also have a Seiko of similar age whose straps and batteries need replacement at about the same intervals. I get these replaced at the Seiko company outlet in North Ryde. Their cost for this is significantly lower than the cost for the Casio - about half, from memory. I would have no problem with another Seiko on this basis.

No high fashion awards to be had here.
OK, i can see it can do a lot, but it looks like a barnacle.

  • $238 shipped on eBay

    • Seems to be a typical occurence around here when reps are posting.

      • i don't mind:)
good to have some discussion here!!

    • That's a different model.

    • Riseman and Mudman are different models… you'll never get a Mudman for $238 delivered.

may be i have to get something more attractive tomorrow XD

  • I love this watch and was going to buy it months ago, but then I saw the backlight…. rubbish red star pattern that distracts too much and makes it all look cheap.

Looking forward to Casio's next gen G-Shocks though, they really are a terrific watch.

edit: I spoke too soon…. have a look at this crap just released!

  • The ugliest watch I have ever seen.

  • I have a Riseman. Its a very handy watch for fishing.

  • If anyone's curious about these Solar watches:

I've got one of these Mudman watches which I got from Deals Direct years ago for under $100. It's also solar and the battery is still fine after over 5 years, and the power reading is still reading high.
