Cheap New / Boxed PS 5's Appearing on Marketplace (Model 2020) - Worth Getting It ?

Playstation 5 has been on my Wishlist for a while, I am seeing a flood of unopened PlayStation 5's disc edition (model 2020 / 2021) being sold on Facebook marketplace for between 450-600 AUD

Some of them including warranty (I have not contacted them if it's through Sony or the reseller themselves)

I saw posts for PS 5 disc edition with 2 controllers, a free game and M2 4TB drive for 650 AUD with Warranty (but how ?)

I know some people are posting those from scalping days as they cannot get rid of them, saw one that was purchased for 750 AUD with receipt now listed for 600 or so

Also when I follow some of these MASS sellers, I see that they are selling older model IPhones and even Macbook pro's boxed unopened with warranty for cheaper than RRP

So what gives ? where are they sourcing these surplus items from ? - I know with Bulk PS 5 purchases (like 300 plus from resellers on Alibaba etc. ) price can come significantly down - are these grey imports ? soo much of a price gap ?

Has anyone had experience buying from them ? considering getting a PS 5 disc edition

    They're scams.

The odd couple may not be, but the majority are. Avoid them.

You should not purchase a used PS5 without warranty anyway. A whole host of potential issues from defects to controller drifting to banned consoles to PSU overheating issues. Not worth the tiny bit of saving.

Buy a brand new one with full warranty and ACL guarantee when you're ready.

    • Exactly they list photos that look like they're shot on a potato, list generic specs or include a free game…

you message them and give you some dodgy website to buy from

    • They're scams.

Damn, and here I was hoping they were scalpers getting their just desserts.

if you cant pick up the item from FB marketplace seller, its a scam.

    SIMPLE

    • I wouldn't even trust pickup from these sellers that are offloading cheap, new PS5's, it could be a fake or defective PS5 in the box. Same thing with the cheap iPhones being sold in a supposedly brand new, sealed box.

Just get new, there's a deal going with GOW for $749 now

  • I dunno, I reckon some people get so desperate for cash they'd sell a PS5 for 600. Front page today has a deal for PS5 disc version for 749 and it comes with new Thor game, so $600 for a used one without games seems reasonable. $450 seems plausible if someone needed the cash bad, maybe they need some more ice in their life or have a holiday coming up or something, or need to repair car.

    By being a scam.

Cheapest 4TB pci-e 4.0 drive is about $350, no way that is a real price unless it's stolen.

  • Stolen or scam!

  • 450-600 AUD

Why do we need to say AUD? Last I checked, I don't expect Marketplace prices to be in Yen

    • When you deal with a number of different currencies on a regular basis, you get use to specifying which currency you are referring to (removes doubt and confusion).
I find myself doing it as well these days. Its just habit now.

      • Especially when things just say '$', and you have no idea which dollar they're referring to :')

  • Sure, sounds like an awesome deal…get one and let us know.

    • Most likely a Pyramid Scam, the first few people get the item, and they write positive reviews, then the deliveries take longer to fulfil.

  • Scalpers have long sold out or have taken the loss on the chin.

  • No

  • I would be more inclined to purchase a PS5 via a retailer as most of them have stock now. I would stay away from Facebook market place sales for the PS5 as they could be scams plus you don't know how long they've had the PS5 for. Pretty sure warranty starts from date of purchase? so id rather fork out that little extra to have peace of mind knowing that I have a warranty valid from date of purchase

  • Yea have not approached any one of the people on market place for this , so yes, its possible they point to some dodgy website
also possible they are giving their "own" warranty as original would have expired (they are all older model 2020)
thanks everyone, will just opt to get from a reputed retailer when on a good deal

  • contacted one of the sellers, its fake, they send a fake website to talk to the sales rep
