  • I got a 700gsm Merino Wool, which is very heavy and I don't like its weight.

Even though it's microfibre and silk blend, it says 800gsm, does this mean it would be heavier than my Wool quilt?

Hi, wool is a heavier fibre whereas this is made with a kind of fluffy microfibre/bamboo blend. So long story short, it should feel lighter compared to your wool one..

    • It's… 10% silk. Which is too little to really have any benefit, and enough to possibly make washing it problematic.

This is essentially just a normal-sounding polyester blanket, whether at $54 that's a good deal or not, I have no idea.

(I have 100% silk blankets, they are comfortably heavy and cannot be washed.)

Yeah. I saw the specs. I don't think 10% Silk would make any difference.

Do you still need a quilt on top of your 100% silk blanket for (peak) winter?

If it cannot be washed, you have to use cotton cover?

Bought a 90% Goose Down 2 weeks ago, I don't like it as it has a strong stinky poultry odour.

        • I haven't spent a winter here yet. Whether the the blanket is fine for winter varies on loads of things- silk blankets come in loads of different weights.

I have always used cotton covers (does anyone use duvets without covers?)

Regarding down blankets. One of the differentiators of quality that I have found is that the better/expensive brands do not have any smell. If there is a strong smell, in my experience it takes absolutely ages to abate. I guess the amount of processing has an impact on the cost of the down, so cheaper down = less washing.

        • Which one did you buy?

  • Thanks OP, purchased one. If it doesn't meet expectations I'll just convert it to a guest blank or something :)

  • Hi OP, do you have any heavy but cool quilts ?
