Buying US Dollars in Sydney

Looking for recommendations on best place to buy up to $750 USD - ideally on or as close to Spot Rate ( or better ) . Can travel anywhere between Parramatta and Sydney CBD.

Am going overseas for a few weeks - just want to top up on US Dollars prior to leaving ( at least to cover first few days).

  • …ideally on or as close to Spot Rate ( or better )

    For USD750???

Perhaps try to find someone with USD cash wanting to sell it and agree on a rate.

  • where are you going overseas?

  • Hawaii (Layover) / San Diego

    • +1

just withdraw at an ATM when you get there. you're losing money buying/exchanging it here

      • Im with CBA and have a 28 degrees card. I have been told for both cards its $4.00 + 3% of total transaction in fees using an ATM in the US. For $750 USD (~$1125AUD) - thats ~$38 AUD dollars of fees on top of exchange rate variation against spot rate. It looks like all the banks and credit card providers have rescinded the free cash advance option from international ATM's - so don't think that this is the best option at them oment.

Best I have seen locally is around $27 dollar fees ( S-Money). Agreed - buying USD cash is the most cost-effective option.

  • I’ve used Wise now for some years. Always found their rates to be better than most (not always the best but pretty close to spot price)

They also offer US, NZ, UK and EU bank accounts. I have multiple accounts set up where I have money in for when I travel. You get a debit card (can be digital or physical) and it’ll use the currency you’re paying on or convert from the best rate out of the accounts you have. You can also withdraw from atms if you have the physical card.

    Take a look into them.
