Creative Gourmet Frozen Mango 750g $5 ($6.7/kg) @ Coles

840

Not much to say, its Mango afterall.

Generally sweet although some occasionally can be little bit on sour side.

Otherwise Thanks Coles for finally some cheap Frozen Mangoes

Gets pretty close to real bargain value.

  • Costco have 2kg bag, of course I can't find price for it, probably to avoid this kind of comparison.

Was there on the weekend and from memory it was $7.50/kg. Could be wrong though

      • Yeah I don't remember either. I just remember that it was cheaper per gram than I usually pay elsewhere.

This is a great price, I saw this today and thought it was a price error considering Coles brand is $12.40kg

      It's called a special

  • how about passionfruit?

    • Passionfruit was half price last week, about $2.80 per 300g bag

      • Oh that’s a shame I didn’t hear about it on OzBargain

I will now have to wait several months for it to go back on special before I can eat passionfruit again

@50cent: It goes on special quite regularly if you set up a alert on price hipster

  • how about blueberry? i find their blueberries taste better than the coles one

    • Blueberries were $3 a (smaller) bag last week. Price per KG was under $10.

Interestingly Creative Gourmet berries still come from Chile, while it looks like Coles berries now come from Serbia.

Bought twice. Never found them sweet. Had a hard time finishing it. Don't want to give another try.

Agree on this with frozen mangoes. I think mostly suitable in a smoothie to give the mango flavour but even then it won’t be as nice as using fresh ripe mangoes.

      • +3

Easy solution is you chuck in 1 or 2 FRESH bananas
That works for me always (Given the use is for Fruit juice/smoothies etc.)

        • plus 1cup yoghurt+1 scoop of whey protein+1 tbsp of peanut butter.

    • Agree just throw in blender for smoothies with other fruit.. adding a date or two is a good natural sweetener.

Also guys Dont forget Coles is still doing RAIN CHECKS too.
So if your freezer is full right now like mine, and the store is OOS, you can just get a Rain check ticket, and buy item later @ Coles

    • Nice! Never knew

  • The only fussiness I have around frozen fruit is that aldi frozen berries are bad. Interested to hear any other preferences people hold.

    • +1

Yeah I find Aldi blueberries not as good as the one from Safeway, but Aldi 1kg of mangoes still a good value.

      • Aldi also has frozen pineapple and frozen strawberries. Pineapple was quite good, haven't tried the strawberries. Can't recall the price though.

    • tried the mangoes ? That's the only frozen fruit I buy usually.
Can definitely say that orchard wine frozen mangoes are tasty WAY better than coles/woolworth homebrand ones (NOT TALKING ABOUT THEIR ORGANIC homebrand offering)

      • The mangos seem adequate, have not tried other brands though. Just use for smoothies.

Good to know they're worth sticking to. Thanks

  • Apologies to anyone in the Subiaco area, but I kinda did a big stockpile of the Creative Gourmet frozen mixed berries earlier today.

There's still some left but not as many as when I arrived :) The price is very good.. Having said that, these CG bags include strawberries - which aren't my favourite when frozen - while the regular Coles brand mixed berries bags, which are really good, don't pack in strawberries. But they are $6.20 for a 500 gram bag: https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-frozen-fruit-mixed-be…

  • Hi guys, you think that these frozen fruits especially with skin such as berries are washed properly before packaging?

    • Here's what GPT 4 said ( the mighty superhuman)

As an AI language model, I do not have access to information about specific brands or manufacturers of frozen fruits, so I cannot comment on the washing practices of any particular company. However, it is generally considered standard practice for fruits to be washed before they are frozen or packaged, regardless of whether they have a skin or not. This is because washing helps to remove any dirt, debris, or potential contaminants that may be present on the surface of the fruit.

That being said, it is always a good idea to thoroughly rinse any fruits or vegetables before consuming them, regardless of whether they are fresh or frozen. This can help to remove any residual dirt or bacteria that may still be present on the surface of the fruit. Additionally, it is important to handle frozen fruits safely and follow the instructions on the packaging, such as properly storing and preparing them to ensure food safety.
