    3k for JVC

    I would rather put a 3K bet on @jv

    Hmmm

Alternatively, you can win this JVC home theatre appliance by submitting a funny video of your kid going down a slippery dip before faceplanting at the same time a cartoon sound effect plays.

Too bad 4K laser projectors don't do 3D. Projectors were the last to keep 3D alive. I was thinking about getting one some day.

    • The AWOL Vision LTV-3500 4K Triple Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector does 3D. Not the same as the short throw projector above, though. Ultra short throws are positioned much closer to the projector screen.

      • You know what? I was thinking it was tri-laser projectors that dropped 3D. Your example has disproven both. Thanks for the heads-up. I will keep it in mind.

    • BenQ x3000i 4K laser does 3D.
There's a firmware upgrade that BenQ service centre can apply that gives it even more support than you get out of the box too 👍

Consider this awesome BenQ projector for $2,195: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/benq-tk800m-true-4k-home-…

I got the TK800 refurbished from BenQ direct for around $1200. Had one issue early on (which they fixed for free), but other than that it's been great for 3-4 years.

    • I had this one. There are better projectors for the same price or fair close to.

      • Please do share which..

        • This a 5 years old projector with a Native contrast of 700:1

The hisense PL1H and LG hybrids one were way better than this one for less money. Unfortunately the deal is gone. Better wait another newer unit got on sale.

BenQ X3000i for one, they're available under $3k sometimes.

This uses a 0.47" DMD (1920 x 1080) chip so it isn't a native 4K projector but uses pixel shifting to achieve.

No problem doing that (My Epson TW-9400 projector does the same) but keep in mind that lens quality plays a huge roll in image quality, with the JVC lens pretty basic.

    • Its crazy that they're allowed to call them 4k.

      • +1

Because it displays 8 Million pixels. Pixel shift does the job. It is VERY far From a 1080p projector.

I think those who complains about it dont have a projector and are expert and read specs.

Its crazy that they're allowed to call them 4k.

        It is 4K.
Pixel shift can display 4K in distinct pixels on the display - every single one is individually addressable and visible.

Pixel shift means that it moves and reuses each mirror to create 4 pixels during each individual frame - the end result is that you see 4 pixels from that particular mirror during a frame, in exactly the same way that you would if the DLP had four real pixels. The only "loss" is that these pixels overlap a bit.

Don't make the mistake of thinking pixel shift is some sort of approximation - this isn't the case.

        • This.

    • Exactly as all projectors under 8k AUD.

  • I hate that I can see the Rainbow effect. Rules out so many projectors :(

Have been looking at the Epson EH-TW7100. Anyone have any opinions on it? Just projectors have them for $2199 at the moment

    • I own the Epson TW7100, they are really good. if you can afford to go with the 9400 as you can tell the difference between the two, especially in the dark scenes.

      • Agreed, the TW9400 is a cracking good projector with an extremely high quality lens. Fantastic bang for buck!

I bought a refurb TW7100 from Epson store. Very happy with it, though only using a cheap Selby roll-down screen.
It's at about a thousand hours now, would buy again if a similar price. My brother's TW9400 is definitely superior though.

  • The new BenQ projectors are out, have a look at them when they are available in AU.https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2023/05/02/benq-unveils-four-new-4k-home-projectorsincluding-laser-and-led-models/?sh=43ed0d8746b6

  • Any deals coming up for the Benq x3000i ?

    • Not sure if they worth the 3k price tag.
