Help! HP Forcing Microsoft Account to Use Laptop!

A client has dropped this new laptop today (JBHIFI).

How does HP allow a laptop where you can't bypass this? 14s-dq2xxx series (this is dq2660TU).

Anyone? Imagine you buy a laptop for your own use in the bush (yes, extreme example, but still), travel 200kms to get one, go back, and you can't even use the thing because you have no internet. How TF is this legal?

I hate M$!!! They're why I run Linux Mint.

Thank you

    What?

Just use google for 5 minutes. If you can't work that out then not sure why people are giving you their tech.

Imagine buying a laptop and getting a "business" to set it up for you but they can't work out how to Google it for themselves so they post a vague forum topic instead of actually asking "How can I setup a Windows home laptop with a local account?" and call everybody who replies an ass hat instead of just setting up with a Microsoft account and then swapping back to a local account like almost every set of instructions tells them

      • Have you tried this yourself? This week?

Creating a MS acct just to set-up a laptop is bad security-wise if you don't use/check it. THAT, is what's happening.

  • Is there a question in your rant?
By default Windows 11 Home requires a Microsoft account to setup
But of course you could have Googled this

I generally fix/do hardware & (lately) email/AV issues etc. as that's the new bug.

I do understand Google— trying to find a work-around. The acct bypass was working only a week ago, now not.

Asking for help from those knowledgeable. Not @sshats who don't know and show up for no reason.

    Cheers

For power users / sysadmins, remember you can use rufus to create a version of Windows11 installation media that lets you use Windows with a local account and eliminates the need to use a cloud connected Microsoft account

This feature is found in the latest version of Rufus and you can read more about it on Verge

      Thank you, voice of reason.

I don't have an ethernet port on this laptop (another rant for another time), so plugged in a USB-to-Eth I happened to have dragging around. Directions were not the same but fiddled and got to the local acct. in the end.

Thank you so much. I wish when people don't know the answer, they'd just STFU & move along.

Update: laptop in S mode. Any way to get out w/o a MS acct?

And yes, I CAN spend hours on Google, but am asking to avoid that, if possible as I have medical issues I'm juggling atm & trying to help some oldies, ta.

Yet another waste of time. Honestly. You surely know SOMETHING you could help people with. Why come here???

My spine was destroyed in a car-totaling MVA. I'm still working as best as I can, yet @sshats keep coming.

Here's an idea: if you don't know the answer: STFU & volunteer at your local soup kitchen with your obvious spare time.

        Ta.

There is a video here showing you how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTWKvDF1dqI

Alternative method is to reinstall Windows, by creating a custom image on Rufus with the tweaks enabled. Not only will it take your laptop out of S mode, but a clean install of Windows also gets rid of the junkware, telemetry and bloatware that's preinstalled on consumer HP laptops.

Thanks. That was my next go-to: an image of 11. I just can't believe M$ isn't being dragged into court again for forcing their BS onto people this way. Every acct created is another avenue of exploitation. How this is allowed is beyond me, considering all of the exploits currently going on & escalating.

Thank you so much for your useful & intelligent reply.

A shame how many come here to do nothing at all but take up space.

    Hello, trolls!

    Happy useless-reply-troll-day to you.

I found my answer from scrimshaw (mod: foul language)

Best to scrimshaw, thanks for an actual reply.
